    Dosing

Question for the plant guru's... What am I missing? High light - tick CO2 - tick Good filtration - tick Nutrient rich substate - tick Ferts - ? Currently dosing with Flourish Comprehensive and ADA Brighty K Lights (Nitrate, Potassium & Phosphorous) When the tank was setup 4 months ago the plants went wild, I have since had 2 major algae battles. Now it seems the tank is stunted.... :-? I've tried adjusting the lights, CO2 and introduced the ADA ferts, still no improvement. Could I be missing iron or something else?
  5. That's the strange thing.. I have 72w in a 60x30x36, it's only grown leggy recently. Might be time to change the tubes... Sorry for hijacking the thread p44....
  6. I've been though the hair algae stage.... only to be replaced with rampant staghorn! Anyway... you have your recipe for glosso sorted!
  7. Ha ha! Everytime I get a rug, algae appears. I hack it right back, now it seems to grow upwards..... :-?
  8. Sick! What's your recipe for the glosso rug? Mines gone all leggy... :-?
  9. UPDATE ADA ferts arrived today, very impressive. Hopefully the ferts will be as quality as the presentation..... So I've hacked most of staghorn affected areas out being ruthless as possible, Co2 is back up and running. Will see how the tank recovers with the ferts but TBH I'm ready to strip this down and start over
  10. It's my most hated of algae. I which it would leave me alone...it's my algae bully.
  11. Thanks Jennifer, Thought as much with the Co2..... Staghorns going to be a tough fight to remove especially when it takes over like it has. Might be time to strip the tank down and start over, I have a new stone that's asking for a new scape Fish seem back to normal :bounce:
  12. UPDATE No Co2 added for 2 days because of the little excel accident has resulted in a major staghorn and fuzz algae outbreak :-? Gee whizz that sucks. The fish look fine now though....
  13. Too late.... :-? I know for next time
  14. Yep, that's the place to get it.... I've ordered brightly K & green brightly lights I don't know if I would shell out for ADA hardware though.... there are plenty of quality aquascaping products on the market now.
  15. No, I disconneted the bottle last night just in case I would get time today to replace it, lucky I didn't or I may not have got home in time to do a water change! Got to try and look at the bright side I guess.....
  16. This is the main part: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/soda-stream-adap ... 4150cb0832 I ordered my reg, lily pipes, check valve all to together to save on shipping. The adaptor is the kick in the #%$# I love the setup though, saves me heaps of room in the cabinet and to get a refill I just go to the nearest Farmers The ottos don't look that happy right now... Hope I haven't ruined their libido!
  17. Near disaster today! Got home early from work today to find half my fish belly up or gasping for air....... Immediately did a 50% water change and now they seem to be making a recovery bar one which sadly did not make it Checked my water parameters from the changed water and nothing seems to be wrong... So I have a theory.... Yesterday my Sodastream finally ran out (P44 that's 2 months) so I decided to dose with excel, I overdosed because I had some bba growing on one of the rocks and I think I reeaaalllly did overdose  Usually I'm really carefully dosing with excel but on this occasion it seems I was a bit sloppy  Lesson learnt, could've been worse!
  18. Thanks for your help Jennifer, I have just ordered some ADA ferts online but while I wait for that to arrive I will increase the dose of comprehensive. If that doesn't work then I'll try the EI method Cheers
  19. Shouldn't be... I'm using Seachem Flourite and JBL manando. I could try some root tabs but I would of thought flourite would be doing the business... For the next setup maybe I'll try aquabasis and manado.
  20. Forgot to mention that I have been dosing 3ml of comprehensive every 3 days and 6ml after the twice weekly 30% water change.
  21. I've tried reducing and increasing both light and CO2.... :-? Figured I need to change my ferts so just been on ebay and purchased some goodies... Hope they do the business
  22. Here's the latest pic.... There has been no real growth for a month now. The glosso took off then got ruined by hair algae so I hacked it back now the glosso and the rest of the plants seem to be stunted... :-? I've tried everything except for changing the ferts...
  23. UPDATE Something's not right......... :-? After some good growth at the start, a few algae problems, otto's laying eggs, a major hack back and some more algae the plants now just won't grow.... I have high light, pressurized Co2, loads of filtration, good substrate and currently dosing with comprehensive (every 3 days). The lights are on for 8 hours per day and the Co2 is running at 2bps Could it be comprehensive is just not doing it for me...?
  24. How about a scape like this? http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/content.php?sid=2950
  25. Can only spot 2 now.... Hopefully more will show up. I might pick up a cheap breeder tank if more eggs are laid
