  1. Might have a few things to unload. Get your planted sorted... you have all the gear...
  2. One tank to take all investment.... will be ordering the opti-clear, inline heater and inline diffuser on my return home. Might give the dry start a go...
  3. Cancelled... Won't be filling this tank
  4. Can you show a front on shot with the wood positioned like it is on the table in the first picture? Don't forget to bank the substrate to get a sense on scale
  5. Along the main beach or in the estuary. After the storm theres bound to be driftwood on almost all Auckland beaches....
  6. Wow! nice tank! Could you please post the specs? I would love to have a go at a nano marine
  7. Thanks! This will only be a temp set-up. If I need a QT urgently, I'd use this and put the Minnows in something else. The only time I've ever used this tank was when I rescaped the 60cm
  8. Going to be away for another 3 weeks.... Do you want the handfulls of glosso I trimmed off today?
  9. Minnows were my first fish... super easy to keep so will suit low tech. TBH it won't be a long term tank.... just wanted to give it go
  10. Might as well put it to some use.....
  11. UPDATE After 2 weeks away the tank was looking really overgrown. I cleaned away a couple bits of BBA but other than that it's pretty much algae free. The glosso was about five layers so it's been given a major hack job. Looks pretty awful now, should come right in a few days...... I'm experimenting with my equipment arrangement
  12. The tank is only 30L. I got the main piece on loan from SamH. The rest I found on Melons bay in Howick.
  13. Back at home for a couple days so have been fiddling with the quarantine tank...... I'll attach some moss and a few small crypts. Nothing to fancy. Probably use a HOB filter and just do regular water changes to keep away algae. Still some work to do on the layout but can't wait to have minnows again....
  14. Slope the back up as much as you can to create a sense of depth. Remember substrate does not keep shapes like you want it too, if you want to keep the patterns you have the best way is to use a clear plastic as a barrier between nutrient rich and aesthetic substrates. A path wide at the front winding to a thin path at the rear is the classic way to give the illusion of scale. Looking forward to hearing what your plant choice will be for your scape.
  15. Nice site, couldn't find any external heaters though....
  16. Here's a link to one http://www.aquariumguys.com/ethheater.html
  17. They attach to the outlet hose on an external cannister filter. Not sure what would happen if the filter stopped for any reason.... Loads of people use them though, I'm looking at getting one once I've saved enough for my custom tank.
  18. They are external, one less piece of equipment in the tank. Not essential really, mostly for aquascaping
  19. Think you need to order them from overseas..... Let me know if you find any at a good price
  20. A few beers tonight will mean I'll sleep through any quakes....
  21. I've been working in Christchurch for the last couple months and I'm amazed at how casual everyone is about the quakes.... Betting on the scale etc. They feel way bigger in a tall building, it's my last night staying on the 12th floor that's for sure..... Booked into a single level motel for the next week :-?
  22. Sounds sweet The following should at least be listed: - Tank size - Lighting specs - Photoperiod - Filtration specs (including lph) - Fert routine - Plant mass Anything to add?
  23. You can pick up quality regulators from overseas websites for pretty cheap, chuck in your glassware etc and the price for shipping is well worth it... Until we get a supplier in NZ for everything anyway. !drool:
  24. Because I think there should be an algae sticky, instead of hundreds of algae threads with the same advice. Don't get me wrong... advice is what this forum is about. Lets just set some parameters so advice can be founded on something. :tears:
