  1. This sounds the right way to me also, get some bushy stems in there to starve the algae of nutrients. Have a big clean, reduce photoperiod, increase circulation if you can and keep up with waterchanges.
  2. Got my light working on both tubes again, makes a big difference. Also picked up a canister filter for cheap that will give me 1200L/H. Some might say overkill but I've seen tanks in the UK with more. Just got back from a trip to Mangawhai Heads for some inspiration and came home with plenty.... So now I wait for my regulator and lily pipes to arrive, build a cabinet and hopefully will be shopping for plants in a couple weeks. Slowly coming together
  3. The lighting has really changed this whole scape... I will try the original layout again when I have the full 72w pumping to see what happens. I'm sure adding a sand foreground will change the scape again so need to consider this, once the sand is in there's no turning back. Time is on my side so I'll keep fiddling and post when I get something interesting. Thanks everyone for the suggestions
  4. Don't know why I'm posting this effort :-? That big stone is giving me the right hump. A sand foreground will change the whole scape so I must keep that in mind. I'm off to administer myself an uppercut and a coffee.
  5. Stone swapping going on now.... :-? Don't know if I'm happy with the larger stone at all, it's limiting me with the cut side. With an inch of height from the Manado......
  6. Lily pipes from Fishstreet, inline heater will be Eb unless I can get one in NZ. I would love to support local business but we just don't cater for high tech freshwater in NZ right now
  7. I wish! Still waiting for my Co2 regulator and lily pipes to arrive, choose a filter and a inline heater, build a cabinet and source plants..... I think that's about it. (phoenix44 "pffft is that all")
  8. Cheers Olly, The big stone on the right has a visible machine cut on the back so I am stuck with using the side you can see I could switch the stones around? Thanks for your advise guys, I have plenty of time to get this right so will try all ideas
  9. I only have 1 bulb going at the moment another 36w should help with the dark spot. I see what you mean about the middle point, I could twist the left stone so the nose is closer to the front to alter the path?... I have about 2cms gap on the left and about 5 on the right.
  10. Still looks a bit awkward. Maybe I need a middle sized stone to replace the small stone on the far right.
  11. Adjustment to right stone, better? :-?
  12. New light arrived today which I'm very happy with. 36Wx2 of T5 sweetness! :bounce: Downside is now my hardscape looks a bit pants so will have to start from scratch. I was going add a layer of JBL Manado over the Flourite with the sand foreground but now might try ordering some aquasoil online (not sure if there would be a problem with that) and not use the sand. .....Anyway still time to adjust before I get everything together. Sorry about the rubbish photo, my DSLR is giving me the hump  Cheers
  13. Got a nice little diffuser a couple weeks ago off TM Thanks for the offer! I still need to make a cabinet and decide what I want to do about a heater. Might try and order some nice substrate and ferts online.
  14. little update Just ordered: light (T5 36Wx2) Regulator + solenoid glass inflow/outflow lily pipes check valve bubble counter drop checker Still have filter, hosing, ferts, plants and gas bottle to source....
  15. Looks sweet. Can't wait for the NZ content.... Was going to splash out $600 this weekend on equipment for my tank but maybe I'll wait and see what happens here
  16. As an idea on what I'm sort of going for with this tank... http://www.littlegreencorner.com/galler ... sland.html Not going to copy this tank but I love the use of grassy type plants. I'm making an early call on stocking, 10 Emerald Eye Rasboras! (or 15)
  17. I know what you mean with the low scape, it would suit a glosso rug. There is another layer of substrate to go in and a sand front which should raise the rocks up about an inch. Moss and riccia stones and a few grasses with glosso... But if I find some nice wood.....
  18. You're right, it would be easier to change to a 'just glosso' setup rather than the other way round. Whatever I use in the rear has to be dense. I'm liking the suggestions
  19. Paintball works, they are Co2. You would most likely need an adaptor for it though, try a homebrew website.
