  1. how about an announcement on the main page?
  2. I solved the dead spots a bit by taking the plants out of those corners, nothing for the crud to get stuck to. I guess depends on whether you are going to cover the bottom with plants or leave some gravel bare anyway.
  3. it looks good but there would be dead spots down the front in the corners where the current wasn't as strong, the crud would collect there and not necessarily get washed around to the back. Not sure if that would be a concern but just saying.
  4. there is a thread in here somewhere about Biosuppliers.com, I just got a price list for live food as it's not on the website. If you send him an email he will send it to you. It's a .com but it's NZ based.
  5. if you have space outside for a big bucket (mine is 80L) and it will get some sun, you could start a bugs trough. I can send you some snails to get started. The loaches will enjoy the snails and if they are squashed before going in, I think the others will eat them also. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=48293&hilit=bugtopia&start=60
  6. If you see the black sand from Petstuff101, it's very very fine gravel, of the 'midnight' variety, not 'sand' strictly. The normal midnight fine gravel looks really good (I've got it) but I'm not sure on the suitability of even fine gravel for fish with barbs like the khuli loaches. They would try to burrow as it would be light but I suspect it could be much rougher on them than sand. Since the theme is what counts most in this case, maybe you could think about getting another eye catching fish and still get the black gravel?

  10. Central Landscaping Supplies are great and they have branches throughout Auckland. I usually go to this place http://www.nzlandscape.co.nz/ (used to belong to the franchise) and they have the same selection as Central Landscaping. If you only need a few stones, just go to the shop and tell them you want to pick a few and pay for them, then they leave you to hunt about and then charge something they think is reasonable. A couple of times I've been sent off with a chuckle that they can't charge me for such a small amount of stones, and sometimes I've paid maybe $5 total.
  11. Grumpy cat's sister is actually her brother I think he looks like Jabba the Hut here
  12. doesn't it make some kind of bubbling farting noise? Eyebrows are raised and lips pursed when the tank filters get rattley here... plus it's a small tank, not much room for errors, of which I would likely make plenty :sml2:
  13. I might get to do so if we ever go critter hunting :spop:
  14. not being at home is no excuse :sml2:

    The What's Up? thread.

first run back after a while off is often a good one, gives you a boost to do it again :bounce: This week is 14km week for me. May I also recommend you get some electrolyte tabs? We take water on our runs and it's refreshing stuff, much easier to drink than plain water when you are all dry mouth. We used half a Nuun tablet to 500ml today, the recommended rate is double but it still felt really good to drink.
  20. Give them time..... patience grasshopper... maybe play some enticing music or put some fresh blood out for them to suck :slfg:
  21. I can't afford to spend what I would need to in order to maintain daily dosing at that rate. Is there another option or a compromise?
  22. I get plenty of those, I think it means they've laid their eggs and fulfilled their life's purpose and gone to the big mosquito net in the sky...... &c:ry
