  1. Blackworms are the ultimate ignorable worm :dnc1: I had a worm-mergency last night. Leaving the lid off the worms the night before caused them to climb out and then hide in a big blob under the container. Some didn't make it that far and dried out. I salvaged all the worms I could and moved them to the other container, fed a whole bunch to the fish and then dumped that soil into a wider container in the hope that a larger surface area will let it dry out a bit. There are still a lot of worms left in the original culture. If that culture doesn't dry out I need to find some old soil and split that culture into 2 and do it that way....
  2. I need at least one more plant photo for the competition - please send it as an attachment to [email protected] with your name, official plant name and common name + whether you want to be identified with your fishroom name or real name in the competition. Don't forget to put your fishroom name in the subject heading please. Please send it today WEDNESDAY thanks Please see official thread for competition rules.
  3. i had worse luck with grindals
  4. *waiting for swearwords.... :cofn: :yaw1: :yaw2:
  5. I got these white worms as an established culture off TM and he kept them in the fridge so I did the same. When I first had whiteworms I used to keep them in the cupboard under the tank which was at room temp, and they always died. This culture living in the fridge has been the longest lasting best culture I've had yet so they can stay as chilly worms!
  6. Middle tank on the shelf is now empty - the 3 remaining killifish were moved inside to the planted tank and my husband has been siliconing in a divider like tank 3. So soon I will have the breeding tank and a fry raising tank for the CPDs. I managed to catch about another 5 fry from the mulm from the bottom of the adult tank last water change so I'm pretty sure I have over 20 fry now. I was very tempted to get more CPDs at HFF on Sat but I know I wouldn't have enough room for all the fry, and I'm doing pretty well with only 1 pair. 8)
  7. Car is 1996 and has done 200,000km. This particular garage is one of those that have a range of types of service for set (expensive) fees. I would have expected that there were 2 prices quoted - 1 for the full grind n replace, one for just replace, but that wasn't offered. So I'm not too interested in people who want to make money off me regardless of the requirements. Thanks Smidey for pointing out that tool, we will get one of those as usually he uses a clamp which is tricky. I see Midas have a 3 tier price structure for brake replacing.
  8. did the wildtype guppy you put down have a white mark on him? if not that looked like an internal parasite
  9. can someone remind me what to do when the worms start crawling out of the medium? I have some thare are living in a container in the fridge and the worms keep escaping from the inner box to the outer box. I remember that this is apparently because the medium is too wet or too acid for them - how do I get them out and into a new box of soil? I've been scooping the escapees into a new box, and feeding some to the fish, but the rest are well within the soil. I admit I do forget about them and they get fed and fed out only once a week but could they be trying to escape to look for food?
  10. probably ok but the more current the better for the suckers
  11. what is romorrow? is that when instead of driving there today you row there tomorrow?
  12. A tank that small with a good filter could get quite a bit of current going for a happy borneo sucker, I'd have at least 2. If it goes near a window you could get some fresh green algae in there for them to eat too. what sort of filter is in there?
  13. Thanks to both My husband usually changes the brake pads but car work is usually accompanied by much swearing and gnashing of teeth so I thought I'd get a quote in case I could save him the irritation. For $350 though, he's going to have to do it :bggrn: I think the pads he was looking at are only about $45 + new brake fluid etc.
  14. never mind HOPEFULLY get axelrods.... go get more axelrods :sage:
  15. Do brake disc rotors always need machining when you replace the brake pads? We've replaced brakes on our cars before and not done it. I have a quote from a mechanic who wants $350 to change the brake pads but also to machine the rotors. I am thinking of asking 'how much if we just want the pads changed' but don't want to sound like a wally asking.
  16. Here's a little video of how animals eat their food.
