  1. I like all of those varieties... I shall go hunting on payday thanks
  2. Cornwall Park, lots of oak if you climb the hill a little way and ask the sheep if you can take some of their chewing sticks.

Liam, I have seen an easy supply of oak leaves at Cornwall Park if you're still looking for them?
  4. I spy your pygmy cories out and about with the ember tetras, they don't seem phased being in a big tank with big fish
  5. I would start now but that's just impatient me
  6. I was drifting off to sleep and could hear fireworks and people cheering so it was then that I knew they'd won haha
  7. in the end I didn't watch it but am glad they won. Now we can all get on with our lives :slfg:
  8. Yep I'd like something leafy looking rather than grassy looking, but not a crypt
  9. You could also just leave some of the old filter material in the tank if you don't have room or don't want to put it in the new filter. I did this with my filter sponge once when trying to clear the tank of silt, I left the sponge in the corner and stuffed the filter with wool to catch the mud. It worked and the tank stayed cycled.
  10. Are there any sword plants that stay about the same size as a small to medium crypt variety? I've had some success with crypts but as I have a low tech tank, everytime I offend them it takes a while for them to grow back after a melt. I thought I could add a swordplant or 2 to give some more reliable greenery. I do have dwarf chain sword that is doing pretty well but I'd like something with slightly wider leaves. Stem plants not so appropriate either. What do you think?
  11. there is a lot you can get away with when you have as many plants as yours, they fill all the gaps
  12. and frogs are so cute too
  13. the cost of your glass is more than double what I paid Greg to make mine of similar dimensions, so yes would pay to check in with a tank maker

Have been quite industrious today. Went to the Warehouse sale and got a sun umbrella for the hot patio in summer. Then went for a long walk with my husband. Did some washing and while that was doing I started up the spare garage tank to become abode for my fighter that appeared to have been battered by the Badis Brothers... funnily enough I like his colouring in the natural light of the garage more than when he was in the planted tank, it brings out more of his green and shows more red in the body too. Have used a divider to make room for another to keep him company one day, or another breeding experiment, bought a generous handful of wisteria for some greenery, used up some left over river pebbles and some gravel from the breeding tank. Even had enough leftover polystyrene to insulate it around the back and sides. And I still have a whole 'nother day off work tomorrow :happy2:
  15. Hey Kuhli loach, did you ever set up the kuhli loach tank, the one you were trying to decide which fish to put in it ?
  16. I can only aspire to such dedicated wombling
  17. 1 bad kick by the guy and people are all over him.... this is the side of sport that I find intolerable
  18. in the end we hired one and found the ring in 5 mins. It was lightly buried in the compost. A good tool, makes me think about becoming a treasure hunter

a new hair dye or pair of shoes is much cheaper :slfg:
  20. It gets warmest and rots in the middle, hence why mine husband turns it over from time to time to have it do the work more evenly. The stuff he makes is in a sort of cage made of pallet wood so it gets air around the sides but is covered on the top by a tarpaulin. You'd have to have a pretty big pile for it to actually heat the container I think. Sounds like very much a trial and error thing to me but if you get yourself a load of lawn clippings it would be easy enough to set up. Lawn clippings are probably the fastest stuff to rot down. Keeping the blackbirds out of it would be another experiment :sml2:
  21. 10. a door to get rabbit in and out 11. Rabbit's own Mr Whippy van to bring him soft serve cones 11. A roaring fire to warm his toes while smoking his pipe after dinner 11. A bed made of candy floss as soft as his ears so he could snack on it during the night
  22. compost can get pretty hot, my husband reckons between 60 and 80 degrees as it's breaking down :dunno:

I'm hoping that someone coming to my place on the tank crawl will be able to correctly identify my fighter fish's ailment. Found him languishing languidly on the bottom with patchy scales and possibly a loose one. Either has been picked on by supposedly peaceful shoaling fish, the quietly evil badis brothers (they have a look in their eye), or some sort of fungus/unhappy outer scales situation. Whatever it is, he was hungry as a hog when I put him in isolation with some salt.
