  1. Mmm thanks for the info, this sounds like a good idea
  2. We have: - 14 cardinal tetras - 3 Flying fox black line - 1 golden bristlenose - 3 clown loaches (small - will be moving them to bigger tank when they get bigger) - 1 gold ram - 6 rummy nose tetras - 1 small discus around 2.5cm wide So im assuming we wont be fitting any more discus in there. When i get some money together im going to buy a bigger tank and possible make it a pure discus (maybe with the cardinals also)
  3. So when i do feed him blood worms or brineshrimp every 2 - 3 days, how much should i be giving him?
  4. its 140 L, but theres a few other fish in there to. so yea, to small for him when he gets bigger, hes only real small now though, Also, how much bloodworm should i feed him? I got the frozen pack that comes with those cubes of bloodworms, ive been feeding him like 4-5 individual worms, is this good or to little ? Cheers
  5. Unfortunatly our tank just isnt big enought for more then one disc, and we will be buying a bigger tank when he gets bigger, maybe then we got for a huge tank and get him a bunch of buddies. Ill have pics of him up on my blog soonish cheers
  6. Was in at Animates on the weekend and couldnt resist. Hes rather small, but has blue showing on the tips of his fins, and a bit around some edges of his body. His fins are very pointy Looks awsome. Bought bloodworms and brineshrimp (frozen) to feed him, also have some tetra colour dry food. Am planning on feeding bloodworms and/or brineshrimp every 2-3 days, and the tetra colour the rest. Since putting him in the tank, he was a bit scared at first, but has come out and is swimming around the tank with confidence. The golden ram we have is showing a bit of aggression towards him, but he seems to be doing a good job holding his own. Ill have pics up on my blog asap First time we have kept Discus, we would like to think we have done a bit of research into it, but any comments suggestions would be great.
  7. Took my blue rams about a month to pair, and after they did the female layed eggs every month
  8. Sooo nice, one day ill try to get a collection like this too! Blue boy is amazing. Love the melon one also, and the funny facial of the albino one when kissing.
  9. Ah i see, will they attack other types of fish? Like those yellow ones you have in the tank ?
  10. Oh wow! Is this the same with all male puffers? Or is this guy just a bit of an angry fella lol?
  11. Using things like crushed oyster shell to raise the kH of the tank will also raise the pH right? Which is not really going to help... Any sugestions ?
  12. Yea that could be an idea, our current kH is 50ppm so a bit more would probably be good.
  13. Heyas, So my CO2 i turn on during the day lowers my tank pH to 6.6 , and then i turn off overnight and the pH goes back 7. This 0.4 jump every day im assuming is going to be very stressfull for the fish? Would it be better if i left the CO2 on 24/7 on a real low setting like 1 bubble per sec? Or is the .4 change ok? The fish dont seem to be stressed by it. But i was told any changes in pH over .2 at a time will become stressfull. Any help appreciated. Cheers!

    Golden Rams!

Well the two didnt seem to fight at all, they were very happy hanging around each other. Anyways the female seems real happy still, im thinking about getting a blue ram for her. Ive herd if they bread you can get gold and blue ones (not a mixx)

    Golden Rams!

Yea our tank water is well established and no unfriendly tank mates. Only clown loaches which could be annoying to the ram sometimes.

    Golden Rams!

Ok so, the boy died Water conditions perfect. No swing in pH over .2 No swing in temp change, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 10, pH 6.6, temp 27 degrees c He was fine for 3 days then looked real paniced , and hour later he was dead :< Not a clue what happened. The other Ram is swimming around happily. They did fight each other either.

    KH levels

An Update : After two days (and turned off at nights) of running 2 bps, my pH has gone from 6.8 to 6.4 and kH stayed at 50ppm. The CO2 Calc is showing that to be 33ppm of CO2 Now im guessing the real level is a little lower then this, since my pH was 6.8 at start due to pH Down used to lower pH from 7 (our tap waters pH)

    KH levels

Well weve only just setup our CO2 yesterday, before that, the plants have been growing, but stunted, leaves of tiger lotus not growing large etc. And glosso barely growing at all. We have our CO2 on at around 2bps at the moment, so will see how that does. I found an online CO2 level calculator here : http://www.fishfriend.com/aquarium_co2_calculator.html And it seems with my pH at 6.8 and my kH at 50ppm, my CO2 is around 13ppm which is to low. Im guessing the addition of the CO2 is going to lower to pH and not affect the hardness? If this is the case pH 6.4-6.6 seems to be a good range for the fish and CO2 levels as they will be around 20-30ppm

    KH levels

Hello, So today i purchased a GH / KH tester. My GH is reading 140ppm and my KH is reading 50ppm Are these values to high? What is considered a normal KH for growing plants with CO2 injection. Thanks
  23. Well to be honest with our regulator, the difference between 2 bps and uncountable bps, is like a 2mm turn of the knob.... Im probably going to use a lower bpm and keep it on all the time.
  24. No were not using a solenoid, some people say its not necessary?
