  1. Yeah I was draging the nets I had through the weed, I tryed all sorts found it really strange that I didnt see a single one. I have set up a 200L tank in the shade outside for them and I was going to have go at spawning them. I'll just have to try again sometime.
  2. Yeah both were connected to the sea and I was sifting through roots and oxyweed etc everywhere Ive actuallly found them before up north was really surprised to not see any.
  3. I spent all day yesterday trying to find some and failed miserably. I tryed the creek behind Auckland zoo and a creek in Otara and did'nt find anything apart from gambusia and dragonfly larvae. So does anyone have any tips on where to find some at the moment?
  4. They struggle to keep them alive in specialist reptile parks let alone in private hands like they were for sale here. Frillies are wicked didn't they used to be around openly ?

:slfg: Pretty much no real logical reason for them to be illegal here especially while you can import pacu which tolerate much cooler water. There not that cool any way a friend of mine has one in the states and in my opinion its boring as.
  9. Nice to see one not overweight and in good feather.
  10. But when I did it they were fine for 6 months so it must be ok :-?
  11. What about wanting some thing that is here but you want to stay within the law. :dunno:
  12. I agree for the natives I didn't find it exceptionally hard to get a permit. As for the exotics I would like to see an amnesty for the stuff that's already here with a disease screening proviso in place. Then an actual list of what is allowed after that so that we know and maf knows clearly whats legal and what is not and the hobby could move on. Probably never gonna happen I know instead we have MAFia. I would keep a Chameleon in a heartbeat have always wanted to. Apart from the disease risk the argument that exotic reptiles are dangerous to our native reptiles is basically a joke especially while everyone's kitty's are out every night eating our fauna it doesn't hold up at all.
  13. Id keep one of the smaller monitor species if I had the chance
  14. Dart frogs aren't poisonous in captivity. :smln:
  15. I would way rather have a pure Naultinus rudis than a cross or a pure Naultinus elegans elegans for that matter but he is nice if a little on the skinny side I have been trying to fatten him up a bit.
  16. Not sure what he is but I think he might be a Naultinus rudis cross Naultinus elegans elegans. It's not a cross with the Mokopirirakau granulatus just in case there is some confusion.
  17. Hey there Im after some Naultinus elegans elegans I have a permit and enclousure's, I have been looking after a Hybrid Green gecko and a Mokopirirakau granulatus for some time now. And the hybrid will not be housed with them just in case anyone is wondering... please pm if you can help thanks
  18. Man those ackies are sweet. If I could keep anything I think I would choose a small monitor species.
  19. Really good to see that they are being bred 8)
  20. I've noticed massive variation in the sizes of my females and one of my smallest has the largest batches of fry :dunno:
  21. My experience was you need money to start off but then if your willing to work hard and get into the job hunting then its way better than N.Z. Better Fish and Reptiles too... If it wasn't for the family back here would still be there. :-?
