  1. good way to waste some time on an arvo like todays virgie. i been meaning to do a few things to the tank but struggling to get away from the tv and beers.
  2. yes Siklid and not CHILLchid as i've often heard!
  3. whetu - how big are your clown loaches? 7years is a good stint for one of them aint it? I've never had them that long to see how much they would grow. Like cars, jobs, women and fishing gear, I have no issues trading them in other models / opportunities. Ok bit different with women now that I'm married
  4. I would be quite comfortable putting clown loaches in a 120ltr tank. I've had a few in various tanks of mine over the years without any issue and no tank was larger than 150ltrs. If the fish are in a smaller tank they wont grow as large as they would in a much larger tank - basically constrained by their environment. Same goes for silver sharks - and if they do get too big just sell them off on trademe or back to your local LFS. Other fish I'd recommend for the top of the tank are danios, guppies, hatchets (make sure you tank has a full lid as they'll jump) I'd go spend a bit of time in a couple of LFS and see what fish take your fancy. Find out what they are and then do a bit of research to see if they are compatible with your other fish and tank conditions. Cam - totally agree on the Khulis they are awesome arent they. I thought i'd lost mine and eventually turned up about 2 months later. The horse faced loaches are like that too. I had one that only really came out at night and also thought I'd lost him until I was watching a game of footy in the early hours and I spotted him peering out at me lol
  5. juliei corys are what i've got. Had always had just bronze or green in the past but saw the juliei and just had to have a few

    blue ram female

my male did that before he died too. Kept to the corner and what looked like heavy breathing. Got extremely blue too that day and then just rolled over.
  7. The best things about neons for cycling is that they are so cheap. The problem is they can die randomly and this may be for a reason other than your tank not cycling etc Danios are good and pretty dam hardy. Rainbows are awesome but a bit more pricey. I'd also consider some bottom feeders. Corys are pretty good and a wide variety available. Bristlenose are also very cool! Welcome to site btw mate 8)
  8. shocking maths there lol but a good attempt Yep verbal vs written quotes - been down that avenue before. Be thankful it was only marginally different - had a similar thing happen to a friend and the difference was much much greater!
  9. Why dont people eat clowns? They taste funny!

    Blue ram???

cheers for that when i got mine I was told something different. basically the dull one was the female. So I bought what I thought was a pair. Since buying them the 'female' has really coloured up. Will check those other indicators mentioned above. Cheers Jade

    Rainbowfish

I have dwarf neon rainbows and love them. Have 2 pairs at $23 a pair but have not thought about breeding them. They are in a community tank with blue rams, corys and danios - no issues so far

    German Blue Rams

if you bother to read the ad in any detail you will see that you dont have to pay for them until time to pickup - therefore no real risk there for the buyer. where in nz is bilbo based?

    German Blue Rams

Last night I spotted a few auctions for German Blue Rams on trademe. They are still only fry but will be available for pickup in a few weeks. Anyone know the differences between German and Chinese Blue Rams or is it just the language they speak?

    Condensation

We've got a DVS at home and it works very very well. Used to have condensation issues before but since installation the problem is gone. Our house is surrounded by alot of bush so stays pretty cool in summer but I was worried it would be too cold in winter. The roof gets alot of sun tho and since we've had the DVS we've only used our heat pump once and that was early in the morning before the sun had time to heat the roof space. Highly recommend seeing if one if suitable for your house if you have serious condensation issues.

    HELP!!!!

Bugger! Shame about your losses! Yep water changes are the right move for sure. If you dont ahve access to some already cycled filter media then to speed up re-cycling process you may want to add some tlc or cycle. That stuff seems to work well and doesnt do any damage to the fish so can't hurt trying to speed things along. That is what I would do anyway. If you dont like adding 'stuff' to your tank then don't, cycling may just take a little bit longer. Good luck!
