  1. I decided a while ago to setup a nano marine tank. I set this up on monday: Tank: Aqua One aqua start 340 40litre, 400L/hr overhead filter with purigen Light: PL 11W 8000k with reflector, Blue LEDs to be added next week. Pump: Eheim 300L/hr circulation pump heater: Aqua One 25Watt Substrate: Coral sand 2.5kg Coral rock 2.5kg Salinity: 1.021 (red sea) Temp: 24C Filled with tap water to cure the rock, I will get RO water for changes. I hope to grow a few soft corals in the future. Stocking plan so far is a Fire Shrimp and maybe a couple of royal grammas. Pictures taken with my phone so not the best quality. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
  2. Yeah pretty sure, I spent about 1/2 an hour trying to get it to work, I thought at first it wasn't lining up, but definitely out of shape somewhere, I have never had an issue with it before, it normally seems to just go together. I know it sounds odd, thats why I asked here, I know a lot of people here use them. Still confused as to what happened to the brown slimey stuff (bio-film) as well, does that mean the bacteria has died off? I haven't noticed an ammonia spike but probably wouldn't with 2 filters running.
  3. Thanks, didn't think of boiling water. Yeah black seals are on there now, just really needed to force it all in. they still aren't sitting together properly but seems to be working ok, bashing didn't help much. I will try boiling water, then sandpaper or stanley knife if that doesn't work.
  4. Yeah bio-film to me is the brown slimey stuff, appears once everything has cycled. I have tried rotating baskets and even without the seals still doesn't fit together like it used to, Its like the baskets are deformed, but not sure how or why it would happen. I have had the filter for over 2 years and haven't had a problem before. I have replaced the seals already a few months ago due to the old ones deforming so much. No media in the way, I checked that a few times (just in case I had a boy look the first time). I don't want to have to buy new baskets because they are pricey compared to a whole filter.
  5. I cleaned my CF1200 filter on the weeekend and found a couple of weird things about it, The entire inside of the filter, baskets as well had no bio-film on it, everything rinsed clean as new. Second when I put it all back together the baskets didn't fit very well, I tried without the rubber grommets between the baskets and still didn't fit well. I had to force them together to get the filter running again. This filter is running on a 300L tank with a Fluval 405 as well Any ideas of what has happened?
  6. Not sure yet, but I guess sexing them is a start I have been looking for a while to see if anyone has bred them and have only seen a few people overseas that have, but no info on conditions.
  7. Does this work for L142 as well?
  8. Just saw this post, Nice call, and very nice ride. I own a bike shop and mainly sell mountain bikes, but still see a lot of car vs bike accidents.
  9. Yes yours is bigger and flowering, mine will catch up one day.
  10. Similar to you, lots of swords, tiger lotus, a few crypts and a few stem
  11. Yes HO fittings, So 2x power glo or 1x power glo and 1x lifeglo? I figure replace both at once.
  12. Sorry should have said T5HO and the GLO range will fit, just had a look at there website.
  13. I need to replace my 39W 34" T5HO tube for my 4ft planted tank. Has aqua one tubes in now, 1 has just died. I am looking at the GLO tubes 1 life glo and 1 power glo or should I get 2 life glo? or something different?
  14. Does anyone get the claimed flow rate from an aqua-one? I have a CF1200 and I thought I read they only flow 700lph, even that seems a lot more than mine flows.
  15. There seems to be less small/baby snails, it's only been in there a month or so. Regular water changes keep the levels very low so doesn't effect the fish. It's only in my guppy tank didn't want to risk the others untill I can be sure it is fine.
  16. I agree, the amount would be un-measurable. I have a small copper washer in the filter of one my tanks to kill snails, fish are fine.
  17. My Spotted bristlenose have spawned last week and now I have pics :bounce: Follow the topic here: http://fishkeepers.co.nz/forums/viewtop ... 03&start=0
  18. I did think about the eheim stuff but thought it was a little pricey even though I only need a couple of litres. Might just go with the ceramic noodles. Thanks
  19. Thats the one I am thinking of buying, but I would want to get it on pellets.
  20. Has anyone got them on prepared food? I am thinking about getting 1 but unsure about feeding.
  21. These are the two I am comparing: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 291640.htm http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 443397.htm
  22. I need some more bio noodles and was wondering the benefits of sintered glass over ceramic if any?
  23. I got a 3.5kg bottle from the place that services our fire exstinguishers. $180 filled and tested.
