  1. What was the black silicon you used? I am having a tank made now with black silicon and you have me slightly concerned.
  2. Thanks for the post. Levamisole is a new bottle, correct dose and vac after. I will try malachite green, I have some droncit tabs now as well. Hopefully something will put a stop to what is killing them.
  3. Formalin would be my absolute last resort. I will try and find some prazi next.
  4. update: Another heckelii started breathing heavy so I decided to treat with furan 2, I have done a 4 dose course of this with the recommended water changes. I lost the heckelii, 1 zebra loach and my leopard ctenopoma is now not going to make it through the day. I have also treated with levamisole a couple of weeks ago. Any suggestions? I really don't want to loose any more fish.
  5. I just re-read this, there is some on the substrate but nothing really, the 2 filters seem to get most of it.
  6. Who said gill worms? I was talking about internal parasites/worms. I thought the fish would be flashing if they had gill flukes.
  7. No clamping of fins, I have done a dose of levamisole although that is more for internal round worm.
  8. I didn't notice red anywhere on the fins, I am leaning toward bacteria as it has only affected this species so far. Substrate is fine round gravel, almost coarse sand. I haven't seen them sifting or hanging out near the bottom much yet. i assume they will do more sifting as they get bigger as my jurupari did. I have increased number of water changes and am monitoring them closely. Should I dose with antibiotics to be sure it doesn't spread?
  9. I di know this but was being lazy, hope it doesn't affect the tank setup.
  10. I got 5 acaricthys heckelii a month ago and have lost 2 since. Both have developed the same symptoms, heavy breathing then gasping, loss of appetite, slight colour loss but slightly redder around around the head, then die a few days later. Water quality is fine, no ammonia, no nitrite, low nitrate. I water change weekly and have increased this in the last few weeks. Tank is 300L with cf1200 and fluval 405 filtration. I tried adding Epsom salt thinking it was a kind of bloat. The sick fish don't appear to bloat but a slight bit of swelling near the vent. I want to make sure I don't loose any more or any other fish. Does it sound like a bacterial issue or parasite? I want to treat the whole aquarium rather than separating them to ensure I get rid of the cause. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  11. Have a look at the weipro lights on fish-street. I am using some on my marine tank.
  12. So long contact time with bio, what about mechanical? Is it affected by flow rate? Can too much flow push particals through where less flow would catch them?
  13. What is the best flow rate for different types of filter media? I have been looking at different filter media and wondering if it is beneficial to have less flow for the Bio? eg;Noodles. Is having the water in contact with this area of the filter for longer going to let the bacteria work better? I have read that Poret Foam is best with less flow, is this correct? With my current plans for my sump the water would be passing through quite fast, would slower water movement ie: wider shorter sump be better than long and narrow for the same volume?
  14. I have been looking at the mfk post, I am going to be running 2 drains, 1 at full syphon I don't have a return pump yet, but looking at something around 4500lph so realistically pumping ~3000lph I will go 32mm which was my first thought. Thanks Hovmoller, I have been looking at Hansen fittings, do you use the push on fittings with hose clamps?
  15. I am getting more sorted with my new tank and want some advice on plumbing sizes for the drains and returns. Tank will be approx 650L with an 80L sump. I was thinking 32mm plumbing, does that sound right for that size tank? should I use the same size for drain and return? Where is a good place to get fittings from? I want reasonable quality Should I use pvc pipe or will flexible tubing do the job fine? Thanks
  16. Yep but that one is just an addition to the other royal, I lost a red whiptail and a Phill Collis special whiptail. My Plecs get mostly Hikari algae wafers and jbl novo pleco now plus veges, A good read on pleco feeding here http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forum ... ary-Thread
  17. What are you feeding them? I lost a whiptail a while ago and I put it down to too higher protein food.
  18. My red lotus melted a month or so ago as well, looks similar to yours now
  19. This looks like something I imagined. I guess if I get the box drilled for this I could block it off later if it doesn't work as expected. I will consult the tank maker about it. Thanks
  20. :cophot: I really like this setup, great work. I might have to get those lights for my new tank
  21. Would something like a baffle in a sump work for this? possibly made from acrylic with slots near that bottom, and the top being slightly higher than the overflow height. I will try to draw what I am thinking.
  22. This is probably the simplest explanation of this I have found - Thanks Does having an overflow like this still collect most of the detritus? Is there anyway of having a pickup/intake near the bottom of the tank?
  23. I am having a tank made soon and want to get sort out an overflow design soon. I have been looking on the net and finding varying designs. Tank will be 1500x700x600 I am wanting it to be quiet, (it will be in the living room) and reliable. The sump will be in the next room (Davidr inspired) more questions to come on this Is a stand pipe with a weir the best option? Any suggestions?
  24. Thanks, couldn't remember where the list was.
