  1. I was planning on sticking as much water sprite in there as I could get with out it being over the top and anything like P44s old planted tank (where the fish were pressed up against the glass ) then hopefully I could get some green water going in it to help with fry survival/food Would it work better if I had a trio or 2M/4F in there??
  2. I have been planning to fill up the pond with around 50+ of them for ages (like a year  )but have never got round to doing it (also SamH wanteed some ) I will have them outside and was wondering if something like this would work: 2/3 Plastic storage bins (clear prob around 50L) -a few large clumps of water sprite in each -no gravel -trio or 2males/4 females (what would be better?? :-? ) in each -weekly 50% water changes -daily feedings flake/pellets maybe frozen food 1/2 times a week I'm thinking of sticking them outside in sun/part shade which will hopefully get the plants to grow well and maybe create a supply of green water for the fry (and as there is no room to stick them inside) Do you think this would work/anything I could do better to get better survial/growth rate/anything else????
  3. that was 50+ for me, ill see how many I can get in my pond first then you can fish some out and get some
  4. Not really , I kind of forgot about them for a while with all my other fish stuff and got a bit lazy with the W/C's and feeding theres not very many left now, yet they have spawned again so I might try it with a bit more enthusiasm this time :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: , just have to wait for them to do it again
  5. they also prefer live food, higher temps, slightly alakine (sp?) water of 7-8.5 and some can grow quite big (but most around 10cm) which probably won't be a problem for you
  6. +1 to the species only tank, they would be very annoying together the green spot puffer would get more aggresive towartds it as it got older/bigger also
  7. If you wanted bulk a guy on trademe sells about 200 at a time , or buy 7 from the pet shop and breed them to get the desired amount I shall use dark green next time then
  8. So would you suggest adding extra oxygen to the water Stella? a lot of surface flow will be sufficient, get a air pump to do this (or aim the filter output up Where is the best place to get the shrimp? Tidal rivers would probably be your best bet... What plants do they like? I'm pretty sure they aren't picky so anything that you could get to grow in it (pond stem plants, java fern/moss ect) Do I need to cover the filter intake? As long as it doesn't have a huge amount of suction and they cant get up it it in any way it should be fine EDIT:colour for SamH
  9. Also you will probably get eggs which the WCMM will eat but they will not hatch as they travel to the sea/brackish water to breed
  10. They should be fine, the shrimp dont have any special reqirements (that I know of) apart from the fact that they need to get to SW for their eggs to hatch and the water doesnt get above around 20 degrees
  11. the second one is about 90L , Mines almost that high The lighting depends on what kind of plants you want, High light plants might need only 36w in the 54L tank but an extra bulb in the 600high.....
  12. I couldn't think of another word he means that it you were to cross a female golden with a male normal you could be more likely to get gold colouration than if you were to cross a brown female with a gold male
  13. If it was true (which i doubt...) then you are probably more likely to get golds in your first spawn, but i doubt it unless the EDIT:gold colouring is partly linked/linked to the X chromosome somewhere.....

    Zev's big Day

     If it's been a few days, try separating them from other fish then condtion them again, re-introduce male, female in bottle ect ect Im guessing your girl is either a single tail (HM/DT/SDT genes) or a veiltail.... probably a single tail Her tail type genes do matter, so her tail type matters if you got her from an unknown source also VT genes are dominant over other tail types...

    Dragon bloods

I think the rock is awesome :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
  17. It depends on which are dominant and recessive.... Albino and lutinos are usually recessive so I Think that for the first generation you should get all or most of the fry being the brown but carriers of the albino/lutino gene then after that you should get 25% brown 50% Brown carriers then 25% fully GBA's/Albinos regarding BNs can we get Calico ones in NZ??
  18. turns out there tons of them on photobucket
  19. They're awespme :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: ,I think one of the sun conures in the avairy is slowly getting used to me :bounce: :bounce:
  20. has his tail always been like that? or is it ripped It could also be a defect..... Any chance you could link to a bigger picture??

    Little Fry

Hmmm... how much light does ricca need if it were floating ?? still a lot light?? they look like clowns to me as well (A lighter coloured background would of helped though )
  23. Schweet I think theres one somewhere by the animates ?? EDIT: I was right :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: It was an example  it could also leach ammonia, nitirites, ect
  24. Is there a switched on gardener in tauranga?? I might give it a go as well if they have some there... I would definatley give it trial first though (Imagine if it went to mush after a few hours underwater green water for the next few days I suppose  )
  25. Would I be able to get a deal on the whatzit, these and those and maybe get a this chucked in to sweeten up the deal Maybe even swap for a Thingamabob ???
