  1. ring ring... helloo? helloooo???? I'm lost
  2. I've seen adodges coke bottle setup. It looks great! She keeps a little gravel in each one to stop it floating about and has them all lined up in a big tank. The tops are cut off and the holes allow water flow. She can rotate the bottles around and bring them to the front for viewing or move close together to get them flaring without having to remove any fish at all. Great set up.

    Greetings!

nice tank. I like the BNs too, even if one of mine was a bossy little thing and I had to move him so the terrified Kuhlis could live in peace.
  4. The current is low becuase the filter flow is adjustable and the outlet also has a silencer spout that can rest right on the water if I want. but when I've turned it up after cleaning, he hasn't minded the extra current at all. I won't try breeding with the current setup , it all looks a bit difficult anyway! Well I'll leave it then and see how big it gets!
  5. he's a blue veil tail.. I want to work my way up to something fancy one day. Once I'm sure I know what I'm doing lol.
  6. My male betta shares a 22 L tank with a Bristlenose. Each morning there is bubbles on top. Is it a bubble nest or surface scum? I've been sucking them up each day along with the top layer of water in case it was caused by scum .. then it stopped for a while. But this mroning more bubbles. I have been doing regular water changes (once, sometimes twice a week). The filter is set to low but if it's scum maybe I should increase the strength. But if it's a bubblenest .. I don't want to annoy him by destroying it each day! When I got him 3 weeks ago he had just finished a bubblenest that morning at his breeders. So maybe it is? I am not planning on breeding him although I do have a female betta in another tank.
  7. thanks adodge I wondered about the tail.. it didn't quite look totally veiltail to me and my daughter thought she might have some CT in her.
  8. would the poor guppy have been in darkenss that whole time? how was it's colours? I'm amazed.. it must have eaten sucked up food.
  9. that sounds do-able , i'm just not too sure on the livefood thing.. mind you - i do have guppys that breed! I will have to read up on brackish tanks too. It's just a thought at the back of my mind for now.

    Newbie here

welcome! I joined a little while ago too. it's a fantastic forum with lots of helpful people. What fish were you thinking about as possibilities?
  11. cool, this has been very helpful. That link was good too. now , what about Scaless fish like kuhli, are they able to tolerate any salt at all?
  12. oh ok.. so the epsom is a muscle relaxant? which is why humans put it in their bath too. What would be the applications for the aquarium... and is dosage different? The reason I ask, is I am currenlty salt bathing my betta (30 mins a day) for a bump that appeared on her head. day 3 and the bump is reducing.. I'm using tonic salt.. wonder if epsom salt would be better and if the dosage would be the same or different.
  13. are the cambodians aggressive to other fish as well, or just Bettas ?
  14. I've been using tonic salt bought from a petshop but I've seen people talk about epsom salt for salt baths. I was out shopping tonight and saw some epsom salt at the supermarket so bought some. What's the difference between the two and do either affect pH ?
  15. the bump has gone down even more today so I'm feeling kind of relieved. She is a VT isn't she?
  16. your right there livingart! I had a pair that wern't hand reared.. never again!!! they would not let anyone speak.
  17. are those Bumble gobys in the 4th pic? I got this idea in my head that I want to have a bumblebee tank but don't know much about what they need.. can you give me some basic advice.. tank size etc and are there any other fish they can live with?
  18. aaaw cute. Is she handreared?
  19. surface scum? this used to happen with my old goldfish bowl until I realised that surface scum will cause bubbles due to a thin film on the surface. I increased the water changes and added an air bubbler while I looked for a bigger home for them.
  20. I managed to get some better pics. The bump has gone down a little bit I think, but still visible. What do you think caused it? I knew if I waited for the Kuhlis to come out, I'd get her photo too!
  21. fussy fish - my tuxedo guppy has become a fussy brat - he now ignores the tropical flakes and waits till I feed bloodworms, tubifex or decaps brineshrimp eggs.. and if I don't feed those he'll nibble at the sinking food for the bottom dwellers. guppy breeding - I thought I would let nature take it's course and not try and rescue the fry. My young female had just 7 fry (that I know of) .... a week later there were 3 left and I put in a female betta who manged to eat only one and bite half the tail of another. The two left are now 3 1/2 weeks old, the tail has grown back.. they are colouring up and I reckon they are probably safe now. Hmm, it won't be long before the next lot arrive!
  22. i don't know the correct way to breed crickets but my daughter who has strange interests decided to keep a terranium of crickets as pets. (all named of course!) She provided leaf litter, a section of live grass and soil, and a container of ungrassed soil. We observed the largest female laying eggs into the soil with her ovipositor a few days before she died. She then released the largest male and kept the smaller ones. Now all the smaller crickets are hibernating (thank goodness!) and we will have to see if the eggs hatch.
