    Dropsy?

you should add some clove oil first .. so they're not consious. Pick some up from the pharmacy next time you're there. Good to have on hard ... just in case.
  2. having a higher water level should also help. I have an AR380 as well but my fish seem to be ok in it as there are lots of hidey places out of the way of direct turbulance. Even my female betta copes well and is not bothered at all.. except she has had to learn to dive for her bloodworms before the guppys get them! I usually hand feed her first though.
  3. I've had that happen .. it was 20 years ago so can't remember the heater brand.. not sure if it jammed or got cracked and electrocuted the fish .. but it was not a pretty sight to come home to! :-( I packed up the tank and haven't gone near fish again till recently.

    Dropsy?

bedazzled.. good luck, I don't envy you. Hope you're ok! I had to euthanise my first guppy and it's a real yuck feeling to deliberatley end a creatures life.

    dried or frozen bloodworms?
  6. i did buy a 25W aqua one heater off trademe , it's as fat as the 55w though, just shorter. Of course you aslo get that slime factor!
  7. cool - love to see a pic
  8. watcha got cookin JJ ?
  9. wow you've got a lot of fish stuff! I'm amazed how much room fish stuff takes over in a house!
  10. I wasn't actually planning on putting them together. Is it a bad idea to let them see each other?
  11. ok, I have a male betta and a female betta. I'm thinking of changing things around but they will be able to see each other. I heard this will intensify the red of the female. But my question is.. will it drive them nuts and stress them if they can see each other but not be able to mate. They will not be in the same tank together as I don't have the expertise or setup to breed them. I also have a question about spongefilter with airpump. The airpump runs quite hot.. is this normal and OK to run 24/7 ?
  12. are you sure he's not an australian rainbow skink? Quite common in Auckland gardens.. We had one .. laid eggs , that's how we knew she wasn't a copper skink!
  13. I've been getting the fish club emails.. latest one 18 August has Gourami Assorted as the fish of the week: $16.29 each or 3 for $24. plus a special on melafix and aqaurian flake.
  14. should be the stock standard lighting or equivalent that comes with the AR380 .. just my opinion.. if we put everyone on an even footing as far as the actual tank goes, I think that's fair.
  15. I used a JBL filter start bottle on one of my tanks.. was fantastic.. never got an ammonia spike at all and am getting acceptable levels of nitrates now so def cycled.
  16. levamisole hydrochloride is particularly good for callamanus worms but not always easy to find. I bought some (in the form of AVIVERM bird wormer) from www.hippo.co.nz in the bird section.
  17. Carlo I was reading your signature... what is your "freak platy" ?
  18. I'm pretty sure live animals arn't allowed to be offered as prizes in NZ anyway.
  19. it's great news but the australian blocks still taste dfifferent, even before the palm oil. I emailed cadbury and the excuses they gave me over the shift to palm oil were ridiculous. Glad they've backed down.
  20. let us know how you get on. How long can the fry survive inside a dead fish? I wouldn't think long.
  21. lol.. i had a friend who hired a helicoptor to search for their cockatoo.. and then had to get a cherry picker to retrieve the darn thing from a tall tree in the forest . yep.. they had money to burn!
  22. when we got our tiel we went out and got a stainless steel fry pan to be on the safe side.. but my parrot breeder friend in the USA says her parrot room is right next to her kitchen, with nothing but a screen between. She breeds parrots worth thousands of dollars and still cooks with Teflon coated pans. She said she you ahev to really burn the pan before it;s dangerous and has never lost a bird yet from teflon fumes. I use other cooking equipment with teflon.. sandwich grill, waffle maker etc and it's fine . Just anything new I open up the windows really well and heat up the item quite hot to let any residue evaporate .. that new smell you get with most cooking things.
  23. cool Sam.. how old are they in those pics? I have two red wagtails and I'm pretty sure the female will be having babies in the not too distant future. Are your parents red or orange? Mine are somwhere in between.. they look a little more red than in the pics: (this was just in their quarantine tank)
