  1. Would a cinder block stand be strong enough?
  2. You're treating the symptoms, not the cause. It's like taking a panadol when you've just had your leg cut off, you really need to address the problem, not the effects. Have a look at this and figure out exactly what algae you have. After that, you can look at what causes it and change what you're doing. It could be something as simple as too much light or too little CO2.

Not knowing something isn't stupid, being unwilling to learn is stupid.
  4. May I ask where you plan on getting Manado (incl. shipping) for cheaper than locally??
  5. Have a look at this. I too considered it but the cost of shipping such a heavy item made it cheaper to buy here. Unless it's something particularly special that we can't get here (ADA soil or aquascaping rocks), I really wouldn't bother.

Week 7 "Explosion" Here's the result of me keeping my hands out of the tank for a week, a bit of an explosion of growth. No more growth than I'd normally get but just haven't trimmed any plants. As you can see the growth is lanky, does anyone know why this is? Also, the brown diatoms are almost gone but staghorn is taking it's place :nilly:

    Tanked

Not to my taste either but that tank is both impressive and appropriate to the purpose.

Just cleaned out the big tank and did a water change for the first time in forever. Fish looked a bit confused
  9. Medium lighting? It all depends on tank specs and how long the plant has been in there. Generally with ground cover and root feeders they take a couple of weeks get established before they show any growth.

This thread is a metaphor for the strains on today's society.
  11. Call your local lighting shop and ask if they do fluorescent light fitting repairs. It's probably the starter, they're cheap as chips to replace.
  12. Yeah the disgusting algae filled ones
  13. Provide the same turnover and depth as a steam and you might have more luck maybe  Heating from the sun is totally doable, think of a system where water is pumped out into black pipes on the roof of a building and then back in as required, controlled by a thermostat.

I thought it was a little darker than usual
  15. I don't really have heaps of anything but I have a bit of hairgrass (not sure if dwarf though), I could trim my glosso and my val isn't doing so well but I could have a look and see if there's any hanging on.
  16. Cam I really think that using the sun as a direct source of heating and light for an aquarium, let alone a planted aquarium, is a bad idea. No one is surprised you're having these issues, the simple solution would be to stop using sunlight.
  17. Yeah I might have a few by the end of this week, letting the tank grow wild at the moment. What are you after? I'd just scatter some smaller stones around the bottom of your existing piles but if you're going to have a foreground in there, it probably won't matter.
  18. Looks familiar! Not sure if you're looking for advice but if you are, I reckon you need more of that stone. A few larger pieces spread out but also lots of smaller ones as found in nature. Otherwise, looking good!
  19. I'd stick to hairgrass with that light and no CO2, glosso will likely reach.
  20. A little more info is need: Tank dimensions (LxWxH in cm) Lighting CO2 Fertilisers Substrate

I am THIS close to renaming this the Random Debate Thread :nilly: We need another one of those by the way guys. IME, most of the females I've had [sarcasm]the pleasure of dealing with[/sarcasm] are nutters.
