  1. Had it at 28C and it was doing just fine, seems to cope with tropical. Doesn't matter as it's cold water now. Cold being around 25C this time of year  Not sure? I'd hazard guess 10-18C N1CK suggested slowly with the hose, could be the best option. I need some more clown killies BTW, my guy was making "friends with benefits" with the slimmer Otto
  2. Looking at stocking my 108L tank with this combo. I'm thinking 30 WCMM and a handful of shrimp, that too much? Does anyone in Auckland know where to find these FW Shrimp? Thanks!
  3. Tank size 90x40x30 Lighting 3x 28w 6500k @ 8hrs per day Filtration 1x Eheim 2213 CO2 DIY 3L Substrate Play sand Fertilizer N/A Flora Glosso Fauna N/A I have recently setup this tank with Glosso and it had the usual algae problems. Started off with some brown algae on the substrate so I increased lighting hours and added three baby BNs. That sorted it but I came home on Sunday afternoon to discover that the water was green. So I pulled out the fish, changed some water and removed the heater. It helped so I changed some more this afternoon. What's confusing me is that through all this, the Glosso is growing better than it ever has for me before. It's staying low, healthy and sending out runners :-? Is this normal? Also, every time I change the water I lay down a little flat piece of schist and pour fresh water onto it but it still uproots a lot of Glosso. Apart from pouring it in at a very slow rate or using the hose, anything else I could do? Thanks!
  4. Thanks Acara. I'm still keen to get some Wilds/Imbellis but will have to stick to fancier types until then
  5. I don't know anything about how others use this forum but personally, I stay in the "Active topics" section. Doesn't matter which category it's in, if there has been a recent post it stays at the top. That's probably the reason why when some people post the same message in multiple forums, it is deemed unnecessary. JMPO of course. Good luck with the L46
  6. Be a little bit more specific perhaps? Do you mean African Lake Cichlids, South American Cichlids, Dwarf Cichlids, etc HTH
  7. What are the dimensions of this tank?
  8. Up until today I was using a PC with only 256MB RAM, 2.8GHZ CPU and 40GB HDD. Now back on 2GB RAM, 3.0GHZ and 160GB HDD, so much better! Also on useless internet and have next to no cellphone reception at my house
  9. They were on special for $9.95 at HFF when I got my two.
  10. Might have to take you up on that offer if Bunnings can't cut the wood 8) I have a power drill so I'm sorted for tools and I can work SketchUp pretty well. Thanks. They do cut MDF to size right? If so, how accurate? I'm also planning a desk too, would be a good practice before a fish tank stand.
  11. So let's see if I have this right. 1. Drill pilot holes 2. Glue everything together 3. Wait for glue to dry 4. Put screws in the pilot holes Yes?
  12. Here's what I'm thinking. 1. Drill guide hole on the face of the board that lines up with the end of another board 2. Do as many as needed for those two pieces 3. Assemble with screws That sound about right? I have some 75mm screws (sorry I'm no good with inches  ) and the jar says 8x3 CSK? I'm guessing 50mm (2"?) screws would be better? So the guide hole needs to be the same diameter as the screw? Sorry about all the questions, just need to get it right. @ oO SKIPPY Oo, what glue do you use? Do you make guide holes? Do you use just MDF or do you use solid timber too? Thanks!
  13. Thanks nzcookie and Carlos & Siran, very helpful Do the guide holes need to be the same size or slightly smaller than the screws? Thanks!
  14. Ottos aren't as cheap as BNs but are still really cool to watch zoom around the tank, mine aren't often on the bottom though :-? Some dwarf cichlids hang out around the bottom I believe
  15. I have a 600mm x 300mm x 300mm aquarium totaling 54ltrs. I'd like to make a stand 600mm-800mm tall purely out of 18mm MDF. Can it be done? Thanks!
  16. Equus burchelli I believe, quite common. Can cross breed with Equus caballus so there are a few hybrids around such as this one: http://pics.nerdnirvana.org/v/animals/zebras-horses-zorses/zorse_horse_zebra.jpg.html
  17. They looks neat. Any fish you don't have? 8)
