  1. 27L Large(?) Splish Splash style kit. 40x25x27cm. Why?
  2. *facepalm* Should have thought of that. We'll see what we can get our hands on, will try do it better next time. Just need to source me some microworms and brineshrimp eggs. I have some egg rafts from the mozzies that should hatch soon, may catch the small ones with a very fine net or something. These fish are tiny
  3. What live food would you recommend Ron? Thanks
  4. According to this chart my almost 5 week old (1mth 4 day old) Betta fry are stunted. They look under the 2 week mark even I'm new to raising them and suck at feeding and water changes but have recently put in the sponge filter to clear the suspended particles up. I've put a few egg rafts in there so I hope that provides some more food, they were on an egg yolk and "whatever else is in the tank" diet so I'm not surprised they're small. My question is, what can I feed them now to give them a good growth spurt? Thanks.
  5. Just a general guestimate: *Lighting unit - 54Watt system? = $200.00 *2 bulbs 10k , 18k = 10000k $30 and 18000k $50 so $80 total *2 reflectors = Make your own? Maybe $30.00 if you buy them? *Flourish comprehensive = $30.00 I think? HTH
  6. You are kidding me coelacanth, right? Where did you get the statistic 99% from? Yes, I know I shouldn't be feeding the troll but seriously, I cannot ignore that.
  7. Depends on your budget and patience, a simple equation will explain all: Budget > Patience = Wait for the fun day Budget < Patience = Go all out right now 8)
  8. When you feel like you're deaf because there's no air pump running behind you
  9. Confucius say "Man who walk through airport door sideways is going to Bangkok" I'd like to go to Thailand, fighter fish and all.
  10. Another option is to have a sump that's bigger than the tank

    JBL filter

Third result I think: http://www.zoodiskont.com/productinfo/J ... i-500.html If your Google is broken then click here: http://tinyurl.com/ykpymyv
  12. I'm assuming that's 2x T8s? I'm no marine expert but isn't that quite low lighting? :-?
  13. A nice HM or CT fighter? Might be a bit over $20 for the really good ones, I wouldn't bother with VTs. Chuck a 23w 6500k energy saver over top of it (use a desk lamp) and do a really nice planted/ rocks or wood setup. That's just what I'd do
  14. *shifty* Just Glosso, some stems, mosses and Java Fern. Also grew Riccia under 6500k too.

    i.d. please

I agree, he's an alright fish. Flaring shot would be better though
  16. I am growing my plants just fine under 6500k's, P44 likes to do it the expensive way though
  17. Maybe that's what the comb/grill is for? IDK, that's just what it looks like to me.
  18. *glares* Whatever works really. Take P44's advice, he's the one with the awesome tank 8)
  19. Nope. It takes the water back to its purest form I think. Removes impurities which cause algae outbreaks. It's a must have apparently
  20. I've never done SW before but as I was researching, the biggest thing for me was RO/DI. Reef keepers swear by it and say it can't be done without it. Just IME of course
  21. No worries, just share you're knowledge and experience with others in future 8) I don't think so. Power-glo bulbs are 18000k and about $50, available from all good fish/pet stores. Yes, it is better to get a wider spectrum in most cases, I think it applies here too.
  22. You won't need CO2 with Excel but the higher the lighting, the better CO2 will be instead of Excel. I use 6500k on my planted tanks but if I could I'd use a combination of 6500k and 10000k, perhaps one in each socket? Maybe even a 18000k in place of the 10000k? HTH
