  1. As a few of you will know I have built my own tank at 900x450x450mm and this is what I have done to it. I have turned it into a planted tank with no fish at this stage, I have a diy c02 injector and am adding a drop of chelated iron a day. I had a few guppies in it for a couple of weeks to ge a bit of fish waste in the gravel and have now removed them. 2. anything i can do to help just let me know
  3. Congrats Billaney, it great having fry and raising them to adults. It's even better when you see the colouration coming thru B
  4. Male Guppies only have one thing on thier mind and that is the reason for the constant harrassing. It is this exact behaviour(sp) that leads to the rule of 3-4 females per male, as the harrassing can ;lead to stress which leads to disease and can lead to death. hoe this helps. You will know when the feale is pregnant as her belly will start to swell B

Now, if only mine would do the same aswell. Good Work jude, what is your secret. B
  8. Will be interesting to see what the experts say and whether or not you would get to strong a current by putting the return at one end and the intake at the other, create a flow throught the tank completely. B
  9. Won't having the water returned to the tank from each end cause a bit of turbulence at the centre of the tank where you are going to put the pump intakes. I have no idea and am just asking as I have only ever worked with rectangle tanks. B
  10. very nicely done luke, the planted tank is what mine should look like  what substrate do you use. B
  11. They are on the main road, between the craft centre and seafood plus. B
  12. Just had to post again as it is post number 300 for me   Sorry scarlett for hijacking this post. B

  14. it's not looking good for my guppies lol
  15. feeding will be no problem, as with fry most people put them in a bare tank, as it is easier to clean. so with not having any gravel in the tank the uneaten food will fall to the bottom of the tank and be eaten at a later stage. B
  16. I got plenty of others but woulda thought that a male guppy would know what to do from the day he was born lol  B
  17. I have an interesting problem that I would like to put to the experts out there, I have some very nice gold bodied gippies that have red and yellow colouring on the fins and tail end, I have put 3 females and 1 male into a tank to hopefully carry this line on as the male is quite striking. PROBLEM: The male is not interested in the females, the females are chasing the male and he just keeps on swimming away from them. the tank previously housed 4 females and 1 male from a different strain, and has a c02 injector on it, as well as having iron added every 2 days or so. The last lot of guppies produced to lots of fry no problem and don't think that much has changed n the tank between the two lots. I don't do tests so please don't hask for the parameters as I have no idea. The tank is 900mm long x 450mm high x 450mm deep. any ideas would be greatly appreciated. B
  18. the bigger tha space the faster they grow, at least that is what I have found, I started with my guppy fry in a small cube tank, but moved them to a 3 foot and they grew twice if not 3 times the speed they were in a small cube tank. The cube tank they were in was also much bigger than a breeding trap. The traps shuih are just to catch them till they are free swimming and then you move them to a new tank, with more space for them to grow. B
  19. Mine arrived today caryl and have read it cover to cover, great work. Will see what I can do for an article for next issue. B

  22. I have 2 hang on, 1 internal and 1 air driven filter( not ug tho) and would like to get hold of a cannister. B
  23. Chimera, Cardboard + Water = not licensed to to do water changes. I usually get the water down the front and therefore all over me, never had anydown the back of the tank and had the same peice of card down the back for 2 years now. B
  24. why not head down to your local whitcoulls and purchase a sheet/s of black cardboard and then ues a double sided tape to attach it to the tank. Cheaper than paint and eliminates the mess. I have blue cardboard on some of my tanks and painted the rest, cardboard definitly easier. B
  25. thank you in advance caryl for your effort and hard work and I look forward to my very first issue. B
