have started feeding them NovoTom , Were chating to Adodge comparing growth (ie her Super Delta spawn is about same age as my orange/red ones , they were concieved same week) hers had grown substantially faster than mine. all she had been feeding them was Novotom from freeswiming stage i were only feeding microworms (which generally arent best if you want max growth) and the occ lot of baby brine shrimp and the diff in size was amazing since ive started on small amounts of Novotom twice a day and baby brine shrimp for the nightly feed all the fry have shot ahead of what they were and having awesome fin growth i still give them the odd alternate microworm feeding to keep diet alternating also feeding the older ones ground up spirilina flake stuff occ too Even my fry from the blue black spawn , are miles ahead of where the red/orange ones were at same stage

Thought id take a few more piks tonight mainly to show how much the honey dwarf gouramis have grown this week added a few more of the other spawns also Honey Dwarf Gourami @ 1month Orange/ Red Halfmoon Fighters @ 11-12weeks got to love fighters around this age they have really taken off over last two weeks prob has alot to do with their diet change also Blue mask /Melano Black Halfmoon Fighters @4weeks these seem to be growing alot faster than the orange / red ones mainly due to diet and more regular feeding
-
its amazing once they get to this age how quickly their fins grow etc . they change daily... the one in the top left is looking real nice mine are growing fast.. even my month old spawn are growing real fast now not as fast as the gouramis who i think almost doubled in size this week

hey there ... i prob would be too worried bout the black spots... doesnt sound like anything to worry about most parasites are generally white etc apart from velvet which is gold dust like as the black specs. they could just be pores/sensory glands etc on the fish? that might just have developed due to growing up etc
-
hmmm thats a random one... got any piks?
-
Hey guys here is a good link ive found while searching on the net pretty much diagnoses things by symptoms then tells you how to treat etc if peoples think its useful might pay to make it sticky http://www.fishvet.com/diagnosis_charts.htm Enjoy!!

oh stink! ive had alot of fighter deaths lately... kinda off putting ive decided to not purchase any others until i know for sure what they deal is... seems to be stable at moment only seems to be the breeders my fry seem to be perfect
-
yup sure will be posting update piks of them as they grow going to have a few available for sale once i belive they are ready im amazed how fast the gouramis are growing... they look small in that pik compared to what they look like now still like the male in the first pik of hm fry.. hes ultra friendly too
-
hahah yeah i started the thread then photobucket was down for maintaince.. uploading piks at moment nothing too special ... fry growing slowly the blue black spawn ones are showing definate black coloring already at about 4 weeks old my piks of that spawn suck ! they are kinda small and i prob need to clean the tank glass more and get better lighting but more for my records than anything i think a few more weeks of decent food and they will grow lots more therefore get better piks the red spawn is about 2-3months old but were fed only on microworms in early days so are very slow growing have since beefed up feeding regimine to aid growth (more brineshrimp and novatom) trying to feed more than once or twice a day also this is the first time ive tried novatom so hopefully get some decent results thanks ADODGE lots easier to feed in the morning when i go to work rather than mucking around with brineshrimp

hey guys thought id start new thread for some piks of my new spawns ive only managed to take a few piks so far.. going to upload one now to get it thread going will upload more tomorrow Orange/ Red pure Hm spawn first pik is of my pik of the spawn.. hes growing nicely showing decent fin growth compared to others heres a pik of the blue black spawn they are very small Heres a pik of some of the honey dwarf gourami fry

catfish and plecs generally arent a threat to fry i find they keep the algae down int he tank and eat the waste if any get eaten they prob arent best of health and need culling anyways i keep couple plecs in each of my fry tanks to aid in cleaning
-
leaving the father is supposidly keeps agresssion down.. remove female after spawning i generally remove the male once all fry are free swimming ive left the male in there for two weeks before but he looked to be getting frustrated as he kept trying to round the fry up and put them back in the nest... then numbers looked to be decreasing so i removed him others have had good luck but the safer option is removing him too read up on that site above.. should give you some good tips i would reccomend liquidfry now if you havent already... otherwise alot of the fry will starve to death then start microworms asap
-
if the plecs are okay i would say the water conditions are fine.. they are normally the first thing to curl up and die if water conditions. ammonia. nitrates.. ph jumps etc change etc or are too high if hes 1.5+years plus.. id say hes done his dash unfortunately .. some have been known to live 2-3years but anything over a year and half not too bad really

hmmmm yeah ive just confirmed my honey dwarf gourami has dropsy too... this one not related to bloodworms hasnt been eating them for ages he is massive and pine cone.. might uthanise tonight if i can put myself up to it finally got my water bore test results back tonight too.. the cold water supply came up perfect thinkning hotwater side might be source of iron oxide (rust in hotwater cylinder) as have seen the odd bit of rust in the hot water upon investigation found out our (2year old cylinder) is constructed of ceramic lined steel , the ceramic can be affected due to too low ph.. the only thing that showed up on out well water was the ph is 6.4 . which causes corossion.... might be new cylinder time ! trying to put a finger on why iv had such big losses since my move to the "new" house going to start using a continous rheem gas hot water cylinder to heat the water for now until resolve hot water cylinder prob! why cant things be simple!
-
hmmm sounds dropsy... generally once it obvious it is dropsy prob not worth the effort.. the meds will prob prolong the death but dont think it will stop it. if its only just showing furan might put it into remission but that fish will always have (kidney problems) dropsy and eventually it will take its toll. i just uthanised a ct last nite that i thought had gone into remission only to have it flare up worse good luck tho yours mite be different

if your worried about fin damage chuck some melafix in there
-
gutted sorry to hear that did you take a pik before her funeral?!?!? (flushn..burying) you stil should be able to tell if it was dropsy or not
-
good stuff pks are annoying to sex... and yeah they forever change color!
-
post a pik up if you can and im sure we all can give you more insite i find dropsy is more obvious if you look from above.. as you can see exactly how far the scales are protruding
-
for being all blocked up you need to reduce diet intake.. prob a change of diet wouldnt hurt to try clean her out... supposidly cooked mashed peas frees them up and speeds up process think what your looking at doing is dropping the fat level around the body so it unresticts the egg tube so then they can flow freely.. although this can be a diffucult task as im still trying to get a ct of mine to drop her eggs for first time.. i feel like geting a pin and relieving the pressure! she is literally massive!
-
hmmmm going by what i can see.. id say the last photo with the darker tail would be male.. rest... undecided... prob female... try conditioning them up.. u should soon see whos egg spot decides to pop out what ive found in the past with pks is they arent anywhere near as agressive as longer finned fighters..(unless trained to fight) due to the fact the males almost look as if they are females... so they dont seem to compete as much also if all these are bought up together they may require being isolated off without view as if they have lived together all their life they will be used to each other so will generally not be agressive unless annoyed enough!!
-
hey how are the pks going now? def that female has beatutiful coloring congrads
-
yeah thats exactly what im thinkning too unfortunately couple of mine got it during the conditioning process.. but they have been having the odd one or two during feeds before that .. so think im going to only use them carefully for conditioning.. and maybee as a treat every 10 or so days. its such a pity cos they seem to really like them! oh well! ive been told frozen grated ox heart is a really good source of protein and a real good food... apar it can foul the water fast if you over feed tho... going to give it a go and see results.. good point bout the female being egg bound due to being a fatty spose a good diet wouldnt go a stray if she is rather big that way mite get eggs flowing?
-
yeah more than likely shes just bulging hopefully shel drop them soon. ive got one ct female that hasnt been able to breed... or drop eggs i were thinkn dropsy originally but think her egg tube is just blocked ...no matter what happens she wont drop them... kinda annoying cos shes pretty nice lookin
-
are her scales rather inflamed and poking out? post a pik up if you can ive seen a few cases of dropsy lately... ive decided to cease feeding bloodworms for now .... have hada few cases lately... just been feeding 2or so b/w per day with other foods also ive had about 5cases last few months... it could be a batch of b/w that arent irradiated at all .. or a batch issue decided to not take any chances... have sent h20 samples to lab for analysis also to cover all bases.. dont think its a water issue as all my fish share same initial supply.... only thing diff is the feed.. fighters have betta pellets. and bloodworms.. occ white worms.. and brine shrimp... occ flake... cooked peas etc.. have varied diet and regular WC the baby fry all seem perfect..so do the seperate female quaters...... only thing i can blame is bloodworms until tests come back going by other reports on net .. others seem to have same problem
