  1. good stuff .. when i eventually get sorted il be listing some halfmoons there a good range of colors etc
  2. bigger ones will be mixed sexes... too hard to tell what is what at this stage as they grow at differnt rates hence why different growout tanks are reccomended as some will stay small and take longer to grow... once seperated they will get more food and therefore grow faster etc good work sounds like all is going well
  3. its hard enuf doing water changes let alone taking piks time is something i dont have much of these days
  4. been too busy to get decent piks of them lmao i took some the other day but didnt really have the time to make a dozen halfmoons sit and flare so decided not to list
  5. hey guys just letn you all know il be listing some more halfmoon males etc on tm so keep you eyes peeled etc also will be selling my aquaone 12cell fighter display unit (cutting down to one) and selling one hexagonal 20l tank (although may keep for a isolation tank) il post some piks up here also to show how some of them have grown up and coloring etc
  6. flick me a text ash easier than replying on here all day lol
  7. ive got a aqua one cell setup that will be for sale very soon were going to list it on trademe... but havent got around to it yet
  8. i try have a good supply of meds around.. metrozindole .. meth blue .. marachn green.. tonic.. furan 2.. stuff like that sometime catchn it earlier could mean life or death of the fish some fish specially fighters are prone to it.. could be a underlieng gene prob or something like that... ive never had dropsy in anything other than anatanboids... i also lost about 5 gourami breeders when i were feeding the same lot of blood worms in completely isolated tanks... thats why i stopped feeding them to all my fish. even tho they were real convient and a easy meal
  9. id second DROPSY there are lots of causes etc most of it is water conditions or kidney problems etc.. some think excess frozen bloodworms are also the cause.. i had a few cases until i stopped feeding these then havent had any since ( only seemed to occur during a certain batch of a well known product) but lost all of my breeders over a 2month period from when symptoms started ... no cure... you may make the symptoms subside but it will come back.. and worse.. i had one fish that lasted 4months with symptoms.. i kept treating and prolonging it.. managed to make him outlast all the others but still ended out in same outsome..
  10. redwood aquatics sell them singlely.. also in the blister packs and the 100 pill jar lots
  11. yup i agree its the best you can feed them.. can be a hassle doing it but get better results
  12. i generally feed two to three times a day small amounts if your using microworms they stay alive for about 3 days in tank so if you miss a feed its no major although they grow real slow on microworms id def try do atleast one feed a day on bbs... thats all i did did the before bed feed of baby brine shrimp and mornings novotom / other foods etc had great growth from doing that way previous spawns i just used microworms until big enough for decap then alternated various foods etc never really used BBS but you cant beat the results from them
  13. yeah sucks if a certain percentage of deaths happen that arent explainable they make you send fish away for testing at around $1200 per fish or something... from what ive heard locally from redwood aquatics theyve had whole tanks fall over but mainly explainble stuff like pump failure / heater failure etc worst thing is with the fighters they dont seem to want to bring any fancy ones in anymore.. because of the hassles of shipping / quarantine (most of the halfmoons were average that came in so not worth the risk) fish importing not for me lol... pity there not a TRANSSHIPPER here in nz.. like they do in Aussie and states.. where you only pay a few dolars for the quarantine , because they do so much of it the cost is down then everyone could buy whatever they wanted from exporters and get some cool fish in their tanks :P
  14. Spose its averaging 66 per fish.. so when you put it like tht 10k for 150 fish really aint too bad specially if your getting decent breeders etc
  15. GEEZ stuff that! 10k way overkill!

hey guys quick post looking to give up on the breeding of fighters for a while im prob going to sell off one of the aquaone fighter display tanks and sell off alot of the halfmoons.. keeping a selected few incase i want to start breeding again mainly due to other comittments just dont have the time these guys require if anyone keen on some message me and il see what i can arrange cheers Kris
  20. ive currently got one of my blue crowntails (mr feisty) in community tank with adult size angel fish plus 4female gouramis and 6male honey dwarf gouramis with no trouble at all.. the crowntail occ chases the other fish around but looks more playful than anything and to be honest hes never looked happier never see him moping around.. sometimes he goes into the car cave thing to rest but usually swimming around being himself
  21. ive got couple of aqua one 12 display tanks and also have couple of tanks that im using for bottled fighters... just down side is occationally you get the odd fat one that trys to get out the small holes and gets stuck only lost one to this but still i havent had any spawns recently. may be looking at giving fighters up for a bit will keep a few of the nice ones incase i want to start again. just seems people expect to get pure halfmoons for next to nothing yet when ever i seem to purcase them i dont mind paying 150+ for a decent pair or 40-50 for a female and lost about $1200 worth of breeders during my move till i got my water situation sorted considering breeding other stuff for now or giving it away all together for while and just keeping a few so can concentrate on other stuff for while as its been taking up alot of my spare time for while now
  22. have listed a couple up on t.me will upload some more piks on here lata tonight
  23. random finage ...i would go with possibly carring dt gene , fins seem well developed .. prob a slight deformation.. but still looks pretty cool
  24. I So did txt ya back at 6:50pm !! lmao stupid telecom!! gimme a text in the morning and il reply then.. prob forget while at work otherwise
  25. it depends if you want to venture into breeding or not put it this way .. can you cope with say 200 fry that need to be seperated? Lots of water changes and 4+feeds per day for first few months?? then daily WC after that for 4 months?? its alot of work and space.. males are more than happy with other fish for company.. ive finally put a Crowntail i bred in the community tank in out lounge.. and hes never looked happier swimming around with all the others.. flaring and chasing the gouramis ive even got two males in the tank.. the crowntail plus a halfmoon male.. and no fighting yet lol
