  1. Hey there walked to Wet Pets its not white spot nor any sort of fungal disease its because of the Ph crash in my tank. I completly forgot to check Ph. Generally my tank sits at 7 or a little over so I never worry about it. But because of the water changes its brought my Ph down drastically. So according to the guy i spoke too its the Ph crash thats made my pictus catfish unhappy. I tested my tap water and its a low 6. So got Ph buffer... dont really like using chemicals but I guess the occassion calls for it. Thanks very much for the help guys I'll let you know what happens. The pet store are helping my little fellow out until he recovers, reckons hes got a 60% chance of survival, so fingers crossed. :bounce:
  2. Ahhhh reali? Wet Pets you say. I can't get there today and I dont think Pictus is going to make it till tomorrow. God i hate only having my learners and no car.lol. Boyfriend is not much help either, "everything will be fine, dont worry..."
  3. Thanks for that Stella I still think whitespot maybe a secondary problem as there are raised white dots on body but oddly enough not fins.None of other fish are showing signs of it I have mainly fighters left now, however my female BN is showing the starts of it on a fin, so Im stressing hardcore because I am moving in 8 days, my hospital tank has been dismantled and my fighters dont like too much salt so Im torn as to what to do, I dont want to do anything that might upset my Halfmoon fighters but I want to save my pictus and BN so I dont know what to do, I've been doing water changes, stress coat and a little bit of salt to no avail.
  4. Thanks for your reply but I lost one over night, I am soooo gutted. I've still got one but hes not looking so good at all, its as though his skin is falling off. What the hell is going on? I just want to cry cos these fish mean alot to me and I've never had any problems till now and of all the problems that I could have had i get this one, which I dont know what the hell is going on. Can anyone enlighten me on what the heck is going on Im so distraught and anxious. The Pictus is not a very happy boy at all and Im so worried for him, hes in a guppy breeder atm just being very still, heres a pic, hope you can see the problem on his fins, and its definately not fin rot.
  5. My tank has recently gone through an ammonia spike and I fear that the Pictus Catfish might have contracted White Spot through the stress, What treatments can I use on Pictus that will not harm them as they are scaleless. Should I just treat with Blue Circle White spot remover at half dose or is there anything else you guys can advise for them? Thanks.
  6. HMmmmm here comes the stupid question but how do you make the cucumber sink? I threw in half of a green cucumber yesterday for my guys and it just floated and course they wudnt touch it until it was anchored down under driftwood.lol Do you use a different type of cucumber?

    Hmmm

I find that epsom salts is a good treatment, returned one fishy to health from dropsy by using epsom salts!! Also fish seem to be reducing in size!! Yay! Must have been constipated.lol

    Hmmm

Thanks for the info guys, Jaide, I ve done the water change added the salts and going to grab me some Furan. The male betta that looks like Handsome has pooped this morning but hasn't decreased in size.... Im hoping it may just be the fact that the food he ate yesterday is still in his stomach, reality is it probably isnt that. Im thinking my old betta may have had a stroke because I've heard of that in bettas that it does cause them to swim and sit like that. I've noticed that he doesnt tend to move a fin on one side so that is a bit curiouus. Hes been in that tank for 2 years now and never had a problem. It wouldnt be the other male causing stress cos he doesnt even look at him.lol that and hes had various males over the years share his tank in seperate living conditions. Water test came back as fine today aswell. Keeping my fingers crossed that all will be ok.

Why dont you handfeed him bloodworms? Thats what I do with my boys I hold the bloodworm block and they come up have a nibble once I know they've had their share i take it out and throw it to the rest of the fish who swarm around it and make it dissapear within seconds! I guess its not really handfeeding in the sense everyone else thinks of it but I think of it in that way. That way poor Fluffy doesnt have to chase it around.

    Hmmm

Hi all, I have a 90litre tank which houses 2 male Betta's dont worry they aren't together, just had to compress the ammount of tanks while I get ready for my move to Wanganui. I have an old male sissor tail betta that over the week I noticed lost his colour and had difficulty swimming, he was very stiff like. So I put him into a guppy breeder so its not so tiring for him to reach the surface of the water. His colour has since come back but hes not a happy chappy. Im thinking it may be old age, but if anyone else has some suggestion as to what else it could be would be greatly appreciated. Heres a picture I took about 5 mins ago of him. 2nd problem Ive noticed my algae eater is bloated, also attached another photo, sorry its blurry but he wont sit still bloated or not.lol AND Thirdly my favourite betta also seems to be showing signs of either bloat or dropsy. What could be causing this as my water test shows, P.H 7.0 (Zomg especially for Palmy water) Ammo 0, Nitrate 0 and Nitrate 0. Theres also a UView in the tank. And as I write this I've just realised I haven't seen a poop from either one of them. Hmm just stuck some seriously green tucker and deshelled peas in the tank and hand fed the male betta to make sure he eats some. So I shall keep an eye on them, but failing the constipation theory what else could it be and if so what can I do to not loose them. Also have treated the tank with Epsom salts in the hopes that if it is bloat or dropsy that that will help.

Nooooo not Handsome!!! Ooo get some whitespot cure in his tank pronto!! Before it gets worse. Let me know how he goes.
  18. U mentioned one of his seemed to be popping out a bit, just a thought but maybe he has pop eye. Also may be worth getting your water tested to see what its quality is like.
  19. They are fine but not long term from what I read, they do start to release toxic stuff as they coating fades in time.
  20. Sorry to hear about Fluffy I thought he was getting better. Hmmm have you tried Acriflavin thats a good anti-fungal treatment. Just use a cotton bud to dab straight onto the wound. Sounds like it may be a secondary infection. Let me know how it goes. Oooo and also maybe add lots of stress coat as the aloe vera in stress coat will help replace the slime coating lost on his head and help heal it, and ward off further infection.

  23. I like to draw these are some of pictures I've done in my spare time and for people. Enjoy (Sorry if the first two are a little blurry, inferior camera, lol) :bounce:
