  1. So my old laptop (nec versa e2000) is painfully slow and it's time to upgrade to something a bit more modern. It will mainly be used for web surfing as well as internet video, video editing, homework and maybe a little photo and music work. At the moment I am leaning towards something like a macbook pro but was woundering what everybody else's thaughts were. I am fairly confident with computers; windows, linux and mac and would rather not spend more than $2500. Any suggestions would be great thanks.
  2. I have had limited experience with breeding fish but have a male and female keyhole cichlid who's colours have increased and are swimming near each other. I assume they have paired up, is this right? How do I know if they are going to lay eggs? I have placed a flat piece of slate in the tank for them.
  3. It was easier to keep the camera upright in the tank and I could not work out how to flip it afterwards. Is there software that will do that?
  4. Yeah it's a nice camera and thats not even the best quality. I had to reduce it as I did not want to spend all day uploading it. I also did a small water change before filming but probably should have done a gravel clean too.
  5. I bought a fujifilm finepix xp10 waterproof camera and just took a quick video of some of my fish. Sorry it is sideways and you are probably best to mute it as the sound is terrible.
  6. Thanks. They all seem healthy except for two eggs which have not hatched. Is there any reason to leave the dad in?
  7. They hatched out today I have officially bred my first egg layer!
  8. Elephants on Acid: And Other Bizarre Experiments by Alex Boese is my favourite book. http://www.whitcoulls.co.nz/book/elepha ... nts/88026/ I don't like fiction as much but I have read Oliver Twist, To kill a mockingbird and Mr Pip for English this year and enjoyed them too.
  9. I have decided to remove the eggs and put them in a spare tank. I took the father too as an extra precaution, he was doing a great job of caring for them. I also added an air stone. They have been in there for 10 mins and he has not noticed the eggs so fingers crossed it all turns out alright. I counted about 40-50 eggs, is that a good amount?
  10. Yeah there is a coconut cave in there but that is guarded by my chocolate talking catfish most of the time. I just added some slate a few days ago and the eggs are on the side of a thick peice of slate next to the glass. Luckily the eggs seem very inexcessable for other fish but I still think I should move them. Here are some images (not rotated around the right way) Here he is wedged in with his eggs: This is the front of the tank to give you some idea of where he is with his eggs. The heater is on the left glass pane and the visable bristlenose is the female. If you look closely you can see the male wedged between the glass and slate caring for his eggs.
  11. My two golden bristlenose plecos have layed eggs and this is my first time dealing with fish eggs. They are in a comunity tank with angels, tetras and other catfish. Just your standard comunity stuff really. I don't want the eggs to become fish food so is it ok to move them to another tank? The eggs are on a rock and I assume I need to move the male too. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  12. Did a couple of image searches and definantly looks a lot more like Synodontis nigriventris. Will definantly buy a couple more if they get more in.
  13. Hello I baught an upside down catfish today and here is a picture I took whilst acclimatising it to the tank. Most of the upside down catfish I have seen on the internet are brown coloured but mine is mostly white. I understand there are many species that may be called upside down catfish but the most common is Synodontis nigriventris. The catfish was the same colour in the pet shop so I don't think it is stress from bagging. Is my upside down cat a Synodontis nigriventris and is it normal for it to be so white?
  14. Nah laptops just old and slow. I only really use it for internet and it's faster and safer than Windows.
  15. This is my laptops desktop: The background is a black and white photo i took of some rocks at lake Rotoiti and the OS is xubuntu 9.10 linux
  16. What if we took good ideas from several cards to create it? Maybe something like this?
  17. 5 is nice but maybe with a different filled font. That was merely a suggestion if it does win and not a vote.
  18. I like card two also but with the correct spelling
  19. Thanks for putting them up Caryl. It has been very interesting talking to all the people walking around the displays. Many of them have been keeping fish for years and didn't even realize there was a club.
  20. Will add some photos of the show later. It went really well today.
