  1. So..... Are we invited along too, to study caterpillars with you? Better take some Rattle snake repellant with you too I hear they pack quite a bite. Have you been cleared by the U.S. government for such a secretive mission? have fun.. don't let the crawly things bite
  2. yep.. pretty sure they are not his. He seems to be making a big clearing in my forest of Amazon swords at the moment... think he is keen on one of the girl chocolate cichlids at the moment as well.
  3. Unlucky Billaney All the best for next time. I found that if I neglect my fish they begin to breed. Then again I did have lots of floating indian fern about for the gourami to blow their bubbles in. and very little current. I think my male has started to blow another nest cause the second lot of fry are being looked after by a Chocolate Cichlid. Now I have to find room to set up tank No. 13
  4. Yay.. finally my 4ft tank has babies in it. After a bit of gardening in my 4ft tank I have found Gold Gourami fry and have scooped most of them out and placed them in a small grow up tank. and then a couple days after that the Gouramis were at it again and now I have a second batch in the main tank. Funny thing is that I have a Choclate Cichlid that thinks he is the dad to the fry and is now guarding them from all other fish. How cool is that
  5. Oh... thought DPC was only paper used between concrete and framing. my bad
  6. Welcome Afrikans Great to see you on the forums... if you have time after 9pm you should enter the chatroom and chat with other fishie enthusiests. I believe they talk about fish from time to time  Oh.. I have a chocolate male cichlid that thinks it is a gourami dad
  7. dpc is made of paper and not very good for pond lining. DPC is Damp Proof Course.... NOT water proof

    Filters

Go for a canister filter Fluval 305 would be sufficient. 405 would be better Advantage would be that it is low maintenance. you can control the flow if you desire as well. Media: Cereamic noodles Sponge Eheim Substrate material. Simple to set up and once setup leave it alone until 6 months then give the material a quick rinse and you are up and running again for at least another 6 months. I chose Fluvals because I use fluvals and I have not had any problems with them. Others may disagree.
  9. Fenriswolf... don't laugh I have known many avid killie keepers in NZ and they have lost great males and females due to the lemming gene. It has taken me many months to develop the non jumping variety. You can ask Alan, Caserole and Kyle02 with regards to this.
  10. If you are looking for new Poly box then try: Plastic Box, located all over auckland Barnes Plastics, Church St, Penrose

  12. I think I have the only 3 species of killies that don't have the lemming gene in them  everyone elses killies like to act like lemmings You can ask Alan.
  13. I get my agar agar from a chinese / asian grocery shop I think there should be one in Hamilton. If not I could get you some from up here.
  14. Awesome Billaney Hope you have just as much fry as I do. Found out I had fry after doing a big clean up (oops  ) but quickly started up a new small tank for the fry and got the BBS on the boil.. all looking good at the moment (fingers crossed )
  15. Aga Aga works well to hold food together... good thing about it is that it is made from plants and all natural. Better than using gelatin. I use Beefheart Tetra Colour bits Frozen mixed veges Garlic Aga Aga And blend together in a food processor. then place in snap lock bags and roll flat

    Pond Ice

Ira... you should stop raking the hail stones into a pile then. they don't melt as fast if they are in a pile than if you left them alone
