    very cool man

That is why you keep killies in an unheated tank in the living room where it is always warm
  5. when you clean the filter, make sure you fill it with water right up to your shutoff valves. Give it a shake first then fill Turn on the intake side first then the outlet. Simple. I have one as well. but I also have one of the Fluval sucker balls too
  6. Welcome Triplefin Drop into the chatroom too at some stage. Most people are there around 9pm... having a newborn would mean that you are up anyway
  7. members of the AFA should be there too.
  8. Tonight was one of the fastest meeting we have had. Got to the start of Godley rd and saw that there were no street lights, then noticed there were no lights in the houses... this does not bode well. drove past New World and there were no lights there either. Got to the meeting and had people milling around. Executive decision.. No Meeting tonight. Hung around till 8pm.. come home.
  9. I got mine from Jansens in Auckland a number of years ago and it cost me around $120 for the size you mention It is also worthwhile to look on trademe too. cost also is determined by the thickness of the glass used as well. the thicker the glass the higher the costs. As for tanks in Dunedin.. I can't help you.
  10. Having a planted tank depends on the fish you wish to go for. If they are big cichlids that like to dig.. then forget about having a planted tank. If you are looking at more placid tank then Planted would look good. The final decision is yours
  11. my breeding tanks are only 300 x 150x 150 seem to work ok for me.. all unheated too. then again i do have them in my living room
  12. if you want to keep them outdoors then keep goldfish if you mean a unheated tank inside an insulated house then the common bristlenose will survive and breed. This I have done myself when I only kept orandas indoors.
  13. What I have been told is that 1200 x 450 x 450 is the max for 6mm glass and anything more tha 450mm in height or depth would mean thicker glass and higher costs.
  14. I have the 4ft you describe and works well for me. double 4ft light seems to be ok for my amazon swords and tiger lotus
  15. congrats on the spawning. good luck on the raising of the things. Sorry can't help you.. I had no luck with raising fry
  16. you will need to find a fish store that will send product to you that costs less than the actual product you intend to buy happy looking. too many of the US places either don't send overseas or they only send using Fedex
  17. Auckland Fishkeepers will be meeting at: Time: 7.30pm When: Tuesday 10 July 2007 Where: Green Bay Community House Barron Dr Green Bay Behind New World Supermarket Park in the new carpark on Barron Drive and the meeting is right next door See you all there. Remember the first meeting is always free We will have tea, coffe and juice available as well.
  18. get clown loaches. they grow quite slowly so your tank would be fine for a couple years at least.. unless you really have that many snails
  19. I don't bother about cycling either and have had no adverse effects. I'm using Auckland water too  yes, very strange about the deaths. I use box filters and find that they work for me
  20. use synthetic wool.. Don't use real wool as this will degrade. using a darker colour wool helps identify where the eggs are too.
  21. Christchurch was nice a chilly on Wednesday night.. fine for the rest.
  22. Home now. Unfortunately didn't get time to go fish shopping then again. there is always next time
