  1. Sweet. I haven't hatched brine shrimp in years. Live food is good for fishies (ok, brine shrimp maybe not so much, but at least they love chasing them)!
  2. Good plan. I'm hoping mine are hatched tonight when I get home, but they will be tiny bubbas. I need to keep their water moving, right?
  3. Thanks, but I'm happy with my glass jar. Easier to clean too, I just pop it in the dishwasher.
  4. I rent, can't be screwing pipe to my kitchen wall sadly.
  5. Oh weird. There used to be another one called ease into 5k. Anyway, for clarification, this is what I used. http://www.c25k.com/
  6. Take off the airstone. Just use the tube. To be honest, I find it a pain to use those upside down bottles. I haven't found a foolproof method to make sure it stays upside down without my cats knocking it over. I just use a glass bottle, dump in water out of my marine tank and some eggs, pop a bubbler with an airstone on it and put it on the windowsill. 36 hours later, BBS! Descaps are ok, but it's great to see the fish demonstrating their natural hunting mechanisms and chasing them down.
  7. I did the couch to 5k program which is quite similar. Loved it. It really makes it easy and feels really achievable when you're doing it.
  8. Actually - yes. I'll have a look tonight and see what I can see. I'm not sure how I'll take photos with it, but I'll give it a go.
  9. Cardinals, cories, BN and pencilfish will be fine with salt for sure. I second salt rather than copper also.
  10. This is the best mental image. "Dude, want to go slaughter some eels?" "Not today, man. Let's build a treehouse then read Twilight."
  11. Oh jokes. I thought you meant to make the plants pretty, not for the FISH to grow. I totally overlooked the fish. My bad.
  12. Depends how big the plants were when you started, and how much money you could pour into it. 6 months to get a really beautifully established tank I don't think is unresonable.
  13. Yay! I'm so glad you found shoes that suit! They're so cute too!
  14. Ah, I'm not too worried about that, it's got a lid on it and its just there for the picture. So you think purple water isn't the same as green water?
  15. The filter wool should do it. You want zero ammonia and some nitrates. Ammonia is super bad for fish. Ammonia > nitrite > nitrate - nitrate at low levels is safe. I would test for ammonia after maybe 2-3 days. You may choose to supplement feed also, especially if the filter is much bigger than the wool you've got.
  16. Hmmm. So I made some green water. Except, it's purple. I thought I'd take a shortcut and used algae out of my marine tank. You think when this matures it will be safe to feed my brine shrimp, or should I start over?
  17. Definitely sounds like you're spot on with the water being the issue. FIsh don't mind phosphate so much, but as you've seen, it breeds algae like crazy.
  18. There are heaps of barefoot running type shoes out there - you can get ones that are like toe shoes and stuff - lots of stores stock them and they sound like the perfect option for you. Otherwise you could always go for the Nike Free range - they're a bit more padded than freerunners but a similar concept.
  19. Could do - more likely to help if it's just in the water than if it's leeching out of something, I'd think. There are a few ways of dealing with it though, so no need to panic
  20. Awesome! Did I see you talking about panda cories too? I love those little guys!
  21. I have no idea how anyone hearing those questions could keep a straight face. How silly! But more to the point, you went to antarctica? TELL ME EVERYTHING!
  22. Ah snap - same comment! I can't remember what it is, but I'm pretty sure palmy water is high in something which can make it difficult for fish keeping.
  23. Agh, you got that right. I hate to think how much money I've spend because it's an emergency and my poor little fish babies will die without! I'm not an expert, but I think Palmy has increased something in the water - it could be phosphate. I think considering it's come back already, I'd definitely be pointing the finger at increased phosphate - you've just got to figure out what from. If you can eliminate the water, substrate and rock from the source, then it's quite simple to narrow down and fix.
