  1. WOW he/she's that OLD?? is that as much colour as I'll get with this little dude/dudette? I do triweekly water changes. he's not that shy, always first to the whiteworm handouts - currently trying to get my hands on some Droncit but no ones seems to stock it or are too lazy to even get it in...wouldn't mind buying some prazi off others as I don't really need 5L of it (nor do I have that extra cash with Xmas prezzies around the corner). fed on NLS discus granules, whiteworms and bloodworms.
  2. wouldn't hydrogen peroxide harm fish? or are we talking about minisicule amounts? I thought nitrate was hamrful towards fish (or is it nitrites?)..
  3. any guess of age? the staff didn't even know what it was when they sold it to me...
  4. another thing to add to my list of items to get from the vets... going to be an expensive vet visit lol
  5. here's a picture of Amy's baby (MIDORI).... pekeXjap chin = annoying snappy little dog that attacks me but Amy spoils her rotten
  6. tank is a 6foot tank, these patches have only started coming up - I've tried gravel vac a few times but they still don't come off. Does anyone know of a chemical I could add without harming the fish?
  7. I brought this guy/girl from the LPS a while ago, it's 9cm not including tail and it's only slightly coloured up. Wondering if anyone could tell me what this looks like? Could it be a turq of any kind?
  8. I have these patches throughout the gravel in my tank and some of it's even established on my plants, what is it and what can I add to get rid of it? It's the dark green patch by the loach that's digging, up close it has a blue tint to it
  9. read somewhere a while ago that Discus would adapt faster to lower pHs than higher pHs (compared to which pH they lived in)
  10. I put a single guppy into a newly cycled tank to test to see whether it's habitable...how big are your Discus? I put 5 4cm Discus into my 6footer and now they're all around 6cm mark and it's only been 2months..leaving them in a small tank would stunt their growth
  11. what kind or parasites could small beardys get? do they result from a lack of cleaning? I'm thinking about putting some cactii in the enclosure for decoration - would these make a good scratching post?
  12. was the cat you got from the SPCA a wild cat? sometimes rehoming a previous wild/feral cat/kitten isn't the easiest to do...Amy had a black and white kitten many years back and it would just latch onto her arm/wrist and go nuts scatching for no reason then it ran away - to this day she's been a dog person
  13. awesome I'll drench these lil critters this weekend
  14. how long do I leave the tank soaking in snail rid for alanmin?
  15. so it sounds like PP is the easiet to get hold off? what would a good dechlorinator be? I won't have any fish left in my tank when I do this, but I do know there's a hell of a lot of these critters chewing away on my precious plants, they're in the gravel too so I was wondering if it would be safe to treat the whole tank?
  16. Coral reefs only have tolerances around a couple of degrees, any higher then the dinoflagellates (symbionts of coral) die off so hence 'coral bleaching' without dinoflagellates = coral starves. learnt in my conservation paper that climate change will mean an increase of 5degrees cel over the next hundred years (which is BAD news for the Tuataras too)...they are trying some weird as experiments with Tuataras at the moment in prep for the future
  17. I might ask my vet school buddies up in palmy and see if they can hook me up with some liquid prazi at a cheap price lol
  18. cool - so now I know to definately get Droncit. Next question: do I just pour the disolved Droncit into the tank? How many times do I do this? ALSO - how do I know that they are better?
  19. I'm in a process of breaking down a tank, have moved the loach residents and have encountered a giant bloom of snail population, I'm wanting to use the variety of plants in another tank but needing to get rid of the snails first. heard potassium permanganate does a good job? how do I treat these plants? I'm thinking about (after all fish residents are gone that is) soaking the whole tank in pp and then empyting the tank after? HOW long should I do it?
  20. cheers for that, yeah anymore help would greatly be appreciated - scared about overdosing Yeah I got forwarded a thread about dosage amounts, now gota get the old calculator out for it. But everyone seems to be saying different things on the Droncit pills. I rang up SEVERAL vet clinics in the welllington region - felt like an absolute idiot as lot of receptionists laughed at me when I asked about worming fish
  21. David R - do you feed frozen mysis shrimp? I've tried feeding my fish that a couple of times but they don't seem to like it and I end up having to siphOn all of it out. PLUS - my Discus are becoming very picky, they try going on hunger strikes when fed granules but go nuts everytime the whiteworms and bloodworms come out. Heard Beef hearts were good for Discus tucker?
  22. Hey, I'm wanting to de-worm my 6foot tank before more Discus arrive, as I've noticed the larger Discus scratching. Been given lots of different advice from using CAT dewormer to Droncit to Furan 2...am a little bit confused, just needing to know which is the fastest and best method. (Liquid prazi is just a lil bit out of my price range at the moment) Thanks, Amy.
  23. what's that in degrees? do you not recommend bathing small hatchlings?
  24. that coral reef is so beautiful...won't last long if climate change continues! I'm hoping Dave shouts me a trip to either Fuji or New Calendonia for my 21st...definately want to give snorkling a go now after seeing your photos
  25. Hey Cezars, still got a blonde boy here for you if you want it, if you can't get around here I could get Dave to drop it off for you. Let me know before I give them all away
