  1. sweet that's cool, how severe could the fights between them get?
  2. haha they're like rabbits! you should strike up a deal with a petshop - there's a new petshop onda corner of waiwhetu and white lines east they don't have any fighters at all. Now another q - do we have to keep the male and females separated when they're older (if they fight) and if we don't have time for them to breed?
  3. How many more have you got left Cam? These lil things jump out of the water when they see me lowering whiteworms in pretty exciting! It took Amy forever to get a good photo of them and then it took us even longer getting the photos on this lol
  4. does it ever become lighter in colour or is it constantly dark? mine goes dark depending on which side of the tank they're in... how do you do a potassium permanganate treatment? what's that supposed to do? (new to Discus keeping to, wanting to know what to do before anything actually happens)
  5. think this guy and these girls are around the 4/5months range, colouring up really nice! Just got into Siamese fighters - setting up a nano tank at
  6. I was thinking of room for accessories for the beardy to climb. Would you suggest lower in hieght?
  7. Im currently in the process of getting my beardy and have decided that it would be better to get my own terrarium built. Iv designed a template of what it could look like. Anyone have any suggestions to make it better?
  8. It's the 2 larger ones of the batch that go into dark stages - but they've got the most brightest blue coming through the fins in comparison to the others, is this a stage they undergo when they colour up?? It could be an aging thing because the largest of the 5 has stopped turning dark altogether. BUT also - could it be because half my tank is bare bottom (for easy cleaning with these smaller Discus) and so they camOuflage to the colour?? They go their normal colour when on the side with the gravel. Observation made by staring at them for almost half an hour. The larger ones dOn't pick on these smaller ones, and they're all friendly enough since they eat whiteworms from the tip of my finger so I can't be stressing them out with my presence in the room.
  9. haha no like rostered, but only one is dark in colour at a time and while they're dark in colour they get picked on by the rest even if the rest are smaller than it. It's not water temp (maintained around 29degrees) but only one discus does it at a time - never two. would upload photos if i knew how to....
  10. What do you need as in documents to import? Also is it expensive to import?
  11. haha ok...maybe I'll just up the anti and buy more chain loaches, or could I have zebra loaches as well as chain loaches? just so they can take out the slightly larger snails
  12. HOW big do the clowns get?? will they eat Cardinals?
  13. hope your next batch turns out fine - wouldn't mind buying a few
  14. so, would 6 chain loaches + 5 bristlenoses + 10 cories with a possible larger loach species be too much for a bottom dwelling community in a 6foot tank?
  15. I currently have 6 in my 6foot tank and 4 in my 2foot tank - it's the 4 in my two foot tank that's not doing much they seem to overlook the snails even when they're right on it, the ones in the 6foot are fatter and larger than the 2foot tank counterparts. Would I be able to buy a Clown Loach if I have these smaller ones? If I'm getting Cories this weekend then would my bottom dwelling community be too crampt in my 6foot? Cheers
  16. am currently in the process of setting up a nano tank for the male fighter, wanting to know what plants I can grow in there that won't take over the tank - preferably small. anyone wanting to sell some PLEASE pm me thanks
  17. yeah have a look at their dorsal and pelvic fins, stockier bodies - I find they grow slower than guppies though
  18. was just a false alarm with my two, they ate on the first night I got them then went a bit emo (antisOcial and skittish + not eating) but now they're eating..was getting worried and even brought Garlic Guard. well at least now i know what to do if any of them get sick. thanks, Matthew
  19. I dOn't know what exactly they're eating but I've noticed two out of six in my big tank are quite huge (both slightly longer and fatter) in comparison to the other 4 and are always chased by the others...getting huge oval shaped snails now and have no idea where they came from but i know they are too BIG for the chain loaches to eat
  20. had a skunk loach and did a great job but also tended to nip fins of my guppies so had to get rid of it..shame really, doing a better job than the chain loaches put together
  21. I also think a 200L tank would be too crampt especially once they've grown also if it's not big enough you'll stunt them...I have 9 Discus in a 450L tank and 5 of them are juveniles around 6cm, the rest around the 9cm mark. Plus they require very good water quality so I'd imagine that you'll need a bigger capacity filter if you continue to keep them in your 200L tank. I'm also hooked on collecting different types...looking for a colbalt blue in the welly region atm
  22. I recently brought 10 of these lil things from the local petshop and they don't seem to be eating many snails as every morning I see HEAPS of brown ramshorns on the glass and I collect HEAPS in the bottom of the bucket during siphoning. I thought they were meant to be good snail control?
  23. wow - did you breed these yourself or did you import these?
  24. you made the right choice - we have the BETTER rugby team
  25. HOW do you euthanase fish??
