from what I know scientificly about whistlers they generally don't spend much time in the water usually only to breed and to be a tad pole

In my new golden bell tank I am using coir/coco fiber as the land substrate as it is completly safe to frogs, if they ingest it it does not hurt them at all. It is also an awsome plant medium if you want to grow live plants in your tank. Its really cheap if you chosse it for a substrate just go on trade me and search "amazing plant medium"

I never heard about these frogs going up for sale Im guessing the were whites tree frogs if they caused a fuss if so MAF/DOC/ERMA could have intervened or maybe seeing as they are extremly rare here maybe the seller just decided not to sell them.

yup pretty much though I can not be sure the red were actually axys as I saw them in aussie in a pet shop and the tank was unnamed it could have just as easily been another breed of salamander they just looked like axys

What we know about axolotls today is very little and to me they are the most mysterious domestic animal and for me the mystery that surounds creatures intrigues me and thats why I love axys and other herps as well as having alot of good early child hood experiences with reptiles and ampihbians

we have a cat but they have never attacked the frog and have never even been in the same room ( I have a special fish and reptile room in my house which the cat can't get into)

I think my frog Trevor may be in pain and dieing its is not behaveing like normal during hibernation .He is not wanting to eat anything I offer him he has a small mark on his back that looks a lot like a cut he is not moving very much and makes strange screaming/growling noises. He seems to be in pain and I have know Idea what to do I am very upset and afraid he is going to die! Please Help! .

thanks for that guys I also need some help with getting a terrarium I have looked at the herp society site at all the stuff about the cages and I need to know where I can get one suitable for common geckos and also I need to keep them inside because there is a few stray cats living near us that often catch birds and would be perfectly capable of tearing through a lizard cage.

I am looking for information on them I have already been to the doc website and the new zealand herpetological society and browsed all through the site as well. I have joined the society as well and I want to know how to get a liscense from DOC can some one please tell me how to do this?

I'm do not think this will take effect in new zealand but I thought I would tell you about the problem threatening reptile keepers in the united states. There is a law being proposed that will ban all non native exotic pets from being bred,traded,sold or imported . This law being proposed is called H.R.669 and will effect the whole exotic pet trade especially the reptile community : . In my opinion the bill will not be passed but if it would I would destroy thousands if not hundreds of thousands of jobs overnight. :evil: It would ruin businesss,and result in the economy being even worse than it is now. :evil: If it is by any chance passed and effects new zealand as well do not worry none of your reptiles will be taken away. taking exotic pets away is illegal unless the pet it's self is illegal,taking away legal exotic animals would break the grand father clause. so if you do have reptiles they will not be taken away but it will prevent you from breeding,selling,buying or trading your reptiles. so all in all there is a big problem but is highly unlikely that it will be passed, but we still need to spread the word and fast. fifteen congress members will meet to discuss the proposal on april 23,2009 If you would like to help prevent this go to this site to sign the online petition and make a donation.
