  1. Egg layers can't possibly get pregnant. It is either aggression, or courtship behaviour. Time will tell but if they shiver at each other it's courtship.
  2. Ah yes. That will be just the Red rose, and not Ozelot X I think. Please correct me if I have got it wrong.
  3. Names- Ludwigia repens, glandulosa, acruata. Rotala macrandra, rotundifolia, wallichii. If you do want a rustic red / brown; Crypt. wendtii 'brown' will be brownish even under less intense light. So light is one part of the equation; then you need ferts. Iron in particular helps with the red, but then if you add ferts you'll most likely need to add CO2 so that the plants can actually utilize the ferts given the lighting levels.
  4. Cheers! Been playing with the settings on my camera for a few days now!
  5. I've given you red plants like repens before and they go green. While the current plants are growing well (green) you will need more light for red plants.
  6. Took out a lot of leaves yesterday! Discus are not terribly happy with me. Now they hide because 40+ of their largest leaved buddies are on the compost pit!
  7. When I was a kid, we had some crabs as pets. We caught them (this was not in NZ) and kept them in a rock pool that they could not escape from. One day we got back from school and went to play with the crabs and we saw a whole lot of exoskeletons and only one mega big blue crab that we had never seen before. My brother and I instantly blamed that crab and said he killed all the others and ate them up, and suddenly grew for some weird reason. Then we got mum who laughed her head off and explained how the whole exoskeleton thing works. Later that day we found all the other crabs. Koura pic! I never see him eat. I hope he likes prawn. I put some in there for him. The bullies like blood worms. They go crazy for them!
  8. My little koura shed his exoskeleton! :happy2: :happy1: That's so awesome! Will he eat it? Because if he wont I want to dry it out.
  9. I've cut down the number of plants I'm growing now. Mainly only doing plants on order now. But yes, suss the lights out and we can talk. I would have noticed 100+ leaves the size of my head or bigger! missing from my tank. Not to mention the roots are prob as long as the tank itself. Thanks KP, hows your one going? Must be big now.
  10. I think it was the genus Hypostomous and Loricariichthys.
  11. Not quite true. I must think about how my hair is doing at least once every three and a half minutes! :nilly:
  12. Shrimp! I want shrimp! Can I get them at Massey?
  13. Did I send you the plant too?
  14. If you are a financial member of the FNZAS, you can register your breedings when the fry are between 30 and 60 days old. You must have 10 or more fry as the result of one spawn in this case. There is more info on the fnzas front page. Congrats! You must be thrilled.
  15. hmm. Prob a bit late for this batch, but I have one of those log ornaments you can try when you come down next. Put the eggs in a guppy breeder for now. They should hatch, but the fry are pretty weak.
  16. Ancistrus. PVC pipes work well. So do slate / schist caves. Leave only one entrance open.
  17. whoops. last i saw was eheim, and impeccable came to mind. my bad.
  18. I removed about 40 leaves (massive!) from my ech. Red Rose X Ozelot today, and was playing with my camera and took this pic -
  19. Got more pics as I did a WC today. Male had been sitting on eggs for 8 days and then something went through and destroyed the nest and ate the eggs. 10th times a charm  :tears: Manual mode on my camera. Wish I had made it brighter.
  20. Very good outcome. That sort of disease does not develop in a matter of minutes, and I think the store acknowledged that very well. I love cardinals. I have 50 now. Getting numbers up to 100+ in a matter of time.
  21. This months meeting will be a surprise BBQ! The day is the same - last Sunday of the month; that is the 30th of this month. Bring some meat / sausages / bread and some drink and we can kick back and have a good time. We will start the heat just after 12.00 noon. Coleslaw and potato salad will be provided; if you would like any other nibbles or salads feel free to bring some along. We normally have meetings at 1pm, so those of you travelling from Wellington, Wanganui etc. can still come at the normal time of 1pm if that suits you better! Feel free to bring new members or even those who might want to join and get to know us and what we are about! PM sandysme or me for details of the location. See you all then!

    Fish Quiz?

most likely based on rumour, but no evidence to suggest otherwise. Electric Yellow.
  23. That method is fine. You can go for a little less sand and a little less gravel if you liked.
