The origin of the GBA is probably one of the most hotly debated topics in the catfish world :nilly:
People have finally come around to accept that the commons and the GBA are indeed the same species of fish (previously many thought the GBA was L144) however they breed truly to their respective colours.
The real L144 is terribly rare (worldwide), and will likely never hit our shores.
Yes, the cards are wrong. That particular card shouldn't be on display.
Animates won't buy fish off back yard breeders and so the GBA price is indicative of the suppliers price to a certain level.
There is another unrelated store in palmy that sold 2cm GBAs for $50 each.
Just get Stacey to have a look next time she is in, or I'll have a look at the lists on my next weekly visit.
They should be available.
Also - Orange Chromides?
Actually shipping will be cheap if you organise a container shipment. You pay per cubic meter and it's not too expensive. Just like moving furniture overseas.
You must however get it fumigated and treated with formalin; and have the certs to prove it when the shipment arrives to NZ in about 30-45 days. If you don't have those certs MAF will give you the option of getting them fumigated at whatever cost; or will destroy them within a certain number of days.
I too stock more discus than needed in a 225L tank.
They won't all be there by the end; and some will have to be sold as they mature.
That's just how they are. Incompatibility leads to aggression.
Thanks all.
Luke - It's not BBA. Kept it in the shade for a while so parts of it didn't do so well.
It's Rotala rotundifolia.
And yes Joe, that is a very old steel blue. Not a very good specimen, but I love their shape so I have a heap of them.
Just took some pics of the plants in my tank and thought I should share some of them. One of the reasons I love the plants is because of the different colours they will throw out. No two leaves are the same.
I love mixing colours and textures together.
