it is best to use a bucket just in case something does go wrong. worst comes to worst, go back to where you got it from and swap it for a new one.
  3. sure thing. just use a water conditioner - i use prime cause it works out cheaper and you'll be sweet. depending on what part of plamy you are in you may or may not have to buffer the water you are getting. in the central city all is good, near the lagoon and river where I am - the water is very soft, and used to settle at pH5.5 in my tank.
  4. well that is good to know. im so happy you did not take getting a bird lightly. so many people do, and then wonder why i get all frigid on them

ENgRish!!!! LMAO bang it on the floor. that seems to work with most things. no the heater does not need to be on. soak the plastic thing in some vinegar solution for a bit.
  6. you didn't see "no" bird cause I was not there. He is not allowed near kids any how so you guys are safe. If you have any issues with the palmerston north store please take it up with the manager. A letter would be sufficient, but im sure you could meet her in person if you felt very strongly about the cause.
  7. did you mean to post this as a reply? If so MEGA FAIL
  8. My bird attacks kids. so I shall stay away.

put your jager in a bucket and then do a temperature reading over 18 hours or so. then to re calibrate it, pull the little blue button like thing and set it to the temp that the thermometer read the water at. voila. jager re calibrated.
  10. did you see his little nose go all sniffy? it was so cute! PS-(i love rats)
  11. lucky you. I cant get it to grow. (too much light). the fert balls can make the water quite cloudy if they get stirred up. filter wool can help with that.
  12. Awww! I want it! I shall call it Darwin
  13. you havent planted java fern in the substrate have you?
  14. the only problem is if the pH starts becoming volatile. if it is steady at a certain level just leave it.
  15. that hood is not designed for MH lights, so don't go down that road. Modifying a $600-$700 stand and lid is not something I would do, as its resale value would be nothing. 4ft t5HO lights will sit under the hood perfectly and will provide enough lighting for you to grow almost anything. your t8's are ok at the moment, I'd recommend having at least one that is 10000K as they are not that bright. high output (HO) tubes do not conform to the same wattage rules as the normal tubes,as you get more light for the same amount of Watts if you see what I mean.
  16. he is referring to my glowing ego.
  17. I have that exact same stand and lid! :bounce: and possibly the tank too. what sort of lights are you using?
  18. Ive had the last 2 weeks off. Will continue to have time off until the weekend of the 19th and 20th.
  19. I think they will start at about $750 - 800 and range to $1200 so relatively similar to some of the eheims that are not here yet as well. I don't think I am brave enough to think what the parts and accessories will cost  I reckon anyone who wants one of them should first consider a sump. PS- how is your tank looking now?
  20. it could be raising the KH of the water?
  21. many thanks! now i will get some of that  but what do i have?
