  1. black eye would be more dominant than albino. any day.
  2. I keep the temp of my tank at 29.1 (and in summer it rises to 30). keeps away most of the nasties. and add salt to the water as well!
  3. that would happen if golden was x-linked and dominant over brown. its all hypothetical any ways. can't say what the offspring would look like without knowing for certain what the parents genes code for.
  4. yeah but 28W LO t5's may not cut it. you are better off getting more t8's for the same price. or get 4 t5's. try hunting on there for something with more grunt. have a nosey around the fish shops too... but lighting is one part of the growing plants dilemma.
  5. golden colour in females is more dominant in males? what do you mean? nick it has nothing to do with albinism.
  6. it HAS to be. may not be her genes, but someone's genes gotta code for it.
  7. low output. 70 smackeroons for 28W of light. bit steep.
  8. ive been looking for some splotchy golden ones. simply put; hard to say m8. ive seen some gba's with a splotch of brown. that could possibly indicate that brown / black skin colour is not completely dominant over golden. however i dont think there browns with red eyes, as albinism is usually a totally recessive trait.

in all fairness, it is the weekend
  10. that looks real nice. how big is this tank? I recall seeing a similar setup only with black rocks and anubias in the crevices on a planted tank site. looked real neat.
  11. you can buy separate test kits. like just ammonia, nirate, nitrite etc. any fish shop i suppose?
  12. personally, I think its fine. mine used to love hiding in indian fern. had 6 in my 4ft tank (200L or so). no issues ever. they would come out and eat a copious amount of food and then drift around the tank.
  13. yeah. they get one with each other. I had 6 in the same tank at one time. they are awesome.
  14. they are awesome :bounce: . i wish i could get rusty a friend.
  15. lol i came up with other creative answers like. pictures images double facepalms (for a double face palm pic) but he wants to know what type of images they are. as in what they are called.
  16. the powerglos are 18000K but are specially developed for plants and have extra red and blue.
  17. oh and if they don't have the 6500K tubes - they can be ordered in.
  18. look up rimless tanks. the light suspends above the tank. that's the beauty of them. these tanks have no bracing. if it has bracing, the light can sit on the bracing. doesn't look as nice. t5's are different from t5 HO's (high output) - as i know they (HO) can only be bought from aquarium / pet shops. the 6500K ones will be about $40 max per tube. the 18000K ones I use are $60+ each.
  19. oh. lol. i see it now. nice pics btw
  20. hey, let me start by saying that is a nice size tank to plant. I would say get something similar to an eheim 2213 / 15 - the filter does not have to be a UV filter. A 3ft t5HO lighthood will fit perfectly on top of the tank. Then you need not worry about heat, and what to do with all the heat that a MH creates. you can then choose what spectrum of light you want to use for each of the 2 tubes. Start off with flourish, and DIY CO2. Unless you have a professional CO2 system, but those are expensive. Daltons propagating sand is nice. not too flash to look at, but the intention is for a layer of plant to cover all the visible surface substrate. flourite is another option but in all honesty is probably not going to be needed. You can then put either daltons aqua mix or JBL aquabasis under a healthy layer of sand. Under gravel heating may be your thing if you want to add complexity, but another positive dimension to the tank. Most importantly - what are your visions for this tank? do you intend for the tank to be rimless? - this will affect your lighting options. does it have a hood and stand, or just a stand. where in the house is the tank. Is it against a wall? I must apologise - my suggestions are seldom cheap, but are effective.
