  1. only a petshop / fish shop will have them. if you speak to someone who does not know what they are, its time to find a new pet shop  They are just called powerglo's. its written all over the box.
  2. can you post pics of them please? I would recommend what I usually do. 1x 10000K tube and 1x 18000K powerglo tube. the powerglo is important. there are other 18000K tubes that are not powerglos, and are not as effective. I think your glo lux is a good tube as well.
  3. do you have any red plants?
  4. what plants do you want to grow?

    Hey

Welcome! if you need help just shout out! :bounce:
  7. discus pricing is a bit more complicated than that. fish could range from $50 retail to $150. cheaper to buy them off a breeder, there is no denying that. snakeskins (real snakeskins) will be more expensive, and I have not seen the real blue diamonds in a long time now. I like the red / blue turquoise as well.
  8. That's why im waiting to see how big they will get. mine are not as big as your everyday bn, but have grown to their current size really fast! The resemblance for the bristles is uncanny though. still...
  9. point. Congrats!!! :bounce: That is awesome news! More like a weeks rent  Breeding pairs will usually sell for that. I'm unsure what the babies from the blue diamond and the turquoise would look like. I do like that other pair on there though. Have you considered trying to buy 1 year old + discus and getting a group? letting them pair off and then sell the extras to recover the money?
  10. That is a lot of pennies to have in one bag.
  11. ahem. time for an update I think.
  12. I always liked fish, turtles and the like. When I was 10 I got a fighter tank with 2 males on either side of the tank. spiralled out of control after that! had tanks coming out my ears. then i finally cut down to a fw tank and a marine, and now just a main fw tank and some other extra tanks for holding fish, acclimatising them etc.

    loaches

yes, but skunk loaches are nasty.
  14. congrats! that's really awesome. :bounce: I was super excited when my yellows and dems bred.
  15. about 12 hours. some days i only use the 10000K lights, on most others I use all 4 lights @10000K and 18000K powerglo. ___ Also got some of this yesterday (congo fern) so hoping it grows well
  16. just make sure the 18000K tubes are powerglos. they are expensive. usually twice or thrice the price of normal pet shop priced tubes. worth every cent in my opinion. for results see my thread in this section.
  17. I'd like to, but I would need to collect all the equipment that I need and want before I even consider getting one. Can't really have another tank, and the time commitment thing is a bit more than I can give at the moment. would love to have one, one day though. they are pretty special.
  18. aww. he is pretty. i like beardies. I got very attached to one that was in a pet shop.
  19. yeah. didn't have them or the suction cups.
  20. yeap, as ryan said, they will be fine in your big tank. if there are issues, just make a little hidey place for them.
  21. I would not put a heater straight on the glass. glass on glass and the heat has caused about 4-5 qt tanks to break down here. I had to replace them today.
  22. If you do want to breed them you will need a 2x1x1 tank (slightly wider and higher is better if your discus are larger and im sure yours are). They should take care of most of the young in there, but after the initial stages when you can separate the parents from the babies (few weeks), you'll need a larger tank to grow out the babies in - 4ft or so.
  23. made for corals. its peaks won't be right for plants, but you can always try it out.
  24. edit - unnecessary pic quote. you are back in style too
