  1. Occasionally when I can be bothered I hatch some brine shrimp and feed them that. they love it.
  2. yeah, i added a lot more than what is considered safe. used a 10mL syringe and did maybe 40mL per day until the litre that I had was used up. Now my plan is to do this: http://www.malawicichlidhomepage.com/aq ... xide2.html and if that does not work i will have to shell out for a UV steriliser. if that does not work, ill have to start from scratch.
  3. ive gone through a litre of flourish tank had CO2 on it, also to no avail. that was a waste of excel and now im unsure where I can get the 2L bottles from at a reasonable price.
  4. how small are the rams and whiptail?
  5. UPDATE Nope. Not dying. I have ordered some H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide) and when that arrives i will have to treat the tank. So far I have tried 2 bottles of algae rid and commercial algae remover to no avail. I mean this algae gets stuck to the plastic and grows off it! The peroxide will no doubt kill a lot of my plants, but i do not think I have much of a choice now. I just hope the fish will be unaffected. this is the second day that the tank has been in a black out - my first black out ever. it does not seem to be having an effect on the algae.
  6. most fish selling shops will have them.
  7. I would say boesmani rainbows too. what about a panaque? like a royal?
  8. You asked for quiet, not cheap.
  9. eheim. i also have another grey one that is quiet. stuffed if i know what brand it is. but its not as quiet as an eheim.
  10. Thanks KP. I'm stoked about the subulata. I have this image in mind and I want the tank to look like it.
  11. I put some more moss in the filter, and got some plain black 'real-estate' sign form the warehouse stationary for $5 - actually less than that cause i get a student discount  now waiting on some s. subulata and that should be it I think. Any suggestions on what else I can do? (will I get a better response in the FW section?)

you quote it... you make it twice as bad. count them if you don't believe me. isnt redwoods supposed to be the best? organism?
  15. why regret it? and please, please remove that thermometer strip off the glass!
  16. guesses on what the babies will grow into?
  17. you think 3 will be too many? or 3 more too many? that filter is great for growing java fern  the red eyes, red tails get twice the size if not a bit bigger than that. i really want the dwarf ones though, but I don't think it will work in a tank this size. hopefully i can get some snails for them tomorrow, my apple snails are not breeding yet. they are sort of territorial, i saw one chase the other one away from his hole under the wood earlier this eve.
  18. parrot was not included in fashion accessories. neither was bird poop. neither was cockatoo hair.
  19. put a few stones at the base of the plant until the roots establish.
  20. pic of the tank? you need at least 1.5 - 2 inches of substrate as a general rule.
  21. Got 3 males the other day. Now I need females. But I only wanted 3 fish in the tank. Guess I can ask for 3 females and hope I get them, and deal with it if aggression gets to be an issue. The tank is not nearly done, im hunting for s. subulata to grow in the background and around the wood, but nothing in the front. Filter - Its a 2ft tank, holds either 54 or 63L of water without any thing else in it. A plain background (black card) will be put on the tank at some stage. Come to think of it, they aren't the prettiest fish on the planet, but are very very cool. This is my first attempt at keeping freshwater puffer fish.
  22. green ones with those lights. swords will do well. as will tiger lotus.
  23. I dont know what causes staghorn algae, but i doubt its ammonia cause I have none of that in my tank. staghorn has ruined my tank completely and im contemplating having to start over completely. I have gone through 2 bottles of algae rid and 1 bottle of commercial algae remover to no avail. as far as growing plants, your lighting is adequate. DIY CO2 may not be effective in a tank that size but wont hurt to try. JBL balls are relatively cheap and those should go under some of the plant roots under the gravel. That's about all you need to do in a juwel really. carbon is confused to be a media - which is technically isn't but no matter... it will remove any ferts, but not remove normal flourish that is the "liquid CO2" supplement.
  24. as always tank, and bird viewings (not me included) are taking place before and after the meeting. ... not that I am a bird or any thing.... cockatoo and all..
