  1. oh man... i want! but with the computer expense ive had this week I can't afford any more fancy plecos for another couple of weeks at least.
  2. that's it! that's the master plan! when there are no fish in the trade, no fish can be "tortured" I see what they are doing. its not like he wanted people to eat kittens ...
  3. lots of bars do it overseas, particularly in tourist spots. doesn't make it right, but why create a storm over this when the spca has better things to worry about.. like pressurising courier companies to stop couriering fish for instance. i do not think he would be under any less pressure if he knocked the fish on the head, and then people gulped them down. Feels good to be at the top of the food chain really.

    Dead Fish

how big is the tank, and if he is using RO water, what is the TDS?
  5. Gah. As much as I like fish... come on... far too politically correct. I mean the dude that ate his dog didn't get as hassled as much as this poor fella. If I was him, I would not have called the event off. people eat live fish all the time, I do not think it is fair to judge the morality behind eating fish.
  6. doable. most of what I have is available. L002 L168 and a few others are not on any list.
  7. I think I am going to add 3 of them with my red eyes despite what Ive heard with regards to compatibility. I think with plants it should be ok, and I will probably up the filtration a tad (and by tad I mean utter overkill). Ill report back when I get them, possibly in just over a week. The red eyes seem less agro than the little ones.
  8. I wont sell any of mine, but Im sure I can find "what" you are after
  9. I think not, Ive been relatively independent since I was 17.
  10. I work in a bank but I save the money I earn from there. You should get one!
  11. Personally, I have 2 jobs. I spend the money I earn from one job, after paying off the student loan etc and save the rest from the other job after paying off the student loan. (I work a lot over the summer, pretty much 7 days a week).
  12. Congrats on the cory spawn! they are such a pretty fish, I hope to breed them some day. If I wanted to breed cories all i would need to do is thrown them in a moss tank at 24 degrees C or so?
  13. The equipment list is a bit confusing. You wont need a heater if you are going to have FW shrimp in there; then if you have shrimp in there, minnnows are probably the only other fish you can put in with them that will survive a cold winter. Them and FW mussels which are awesome. So if you decide you want a cold water tank with glosso, you could sell the heater and raise some money for other stuff you may need, like a nice set of lights that looks visually appealing. if you have a filter running I do not foresee the need for an airpump either, and having an airpump running is counter productive to adding CO2 in the tank. As long as your stocking levels are alright, you should be fine. Personally I would use nice lights on a tank, and not the normal CFL's - just personal preference; plants grow better, faster and it looks good. If it were my only tank, I'd want it to look like a pro tank not with stuff from the warehouse hanging on top of it. You could even DIY your own light hood and use tubes - lots of threads on here that show how to do it with T5's and T8's. Maybe you could buy one of those nice looking lamp shades from bunnings or something like that, and somehow rig it in a way that you like. I have seen a number of very neat looking metallic units that look very nice; all you need to do is like it and change the bulbs. HTH
  14. you have to remember that they don't normally send fish, the receive fish. some suppliers use "now couriers" if they are in AKL. I have a few poly boxes at home that have the old tickets still stuck to them.
  15. pete should be able to get you a small royal pleco for like $140-150 or so, there was one 'cactus' pleco thing for sale on here not too long ago, but i presume that has got snapped up already.

    Dither Fish

if you mean dwarf gourami, then you wont have to worry about females, cause there is a long wait list for them. they are usually a plain silver colour, and the males are the bright flame coloured, blue or blue/red ones. pearl gouramis are peaceful but I would not put them in a very small tank, 100L should be ok though.
  17. Get a royal pleco. man, they are awesome. PM Mystic and see if her royal is still for sale, she was looking for a good home for it.
  18. I would plant it and have delhizi's and grey sens in it. I soooo badly want to plant that tank hahahahaha.
  19. Thanks Luke. The other pleco is an L128 Blue Phantom pleco, about 8-9 cm in length.
  20. 6ft tank, in the room? how big is the room?
  21. ahahahhahahahahahhahahahha, *facepalm always though you were the outdoorsy type, I just wasn't ready for that tit-bit of information  personally i would have had the glosso in the front, lileopolis behind that with the hairgrass at the same level and polysperma right at the back cause it grows like a jungle. looks good though. your plants will grow faster under 10000K lights too
  22. yeah, i even removed the carbon. and that's a big no-no for me. honestly this algae is like nothing I have ever seen. it actually latches onto the pipes and plumbing, and grows into them... sort of feels like a slippery fishing line. really weird. I will probably remove the plants, treat them and put them back, but i have to treat the tank as well cause the algae has latched on to the glass, filter pipes, outlets, inlets etc. the only ferts in the tank were the JBL balls and API root tabs, and the algae started appearing before I started using comprehensive.
  23. have you had any luck breeding them?
  24. what? damn treehuggers.
