  1. Not necessary at all. you should be able to count your bubbles in the diffuser if you so wish to do so. Personally I have better things to do during the day than to count bubbles  ... Like troll this forum for instance. Oh and have a separate bottle for each diffuser - this is DIY not pressurised.
  2. I had dems, yellows and 8 ps. snow whites. Yes, I did sell them. Terrible water buffering problems and pH swings. it was quite weird. However, it had nothing to do with diet. I also missed the plants so went back to my planted tank. I think you should try plants sometime  do you feed your fish spirulina flake maaxim?
  3. No! You never, ever attempt to remove the disc. That would ruin the diffuser completely. They are heat fused together so that there is no gap between the glass and the ceramic disc that would allow the CO2 to escape. You soak them in a solution of bleach and water and clean them with a toothbrush. Do not use something with metal bristles as this will damage the frit. Make sure to remove the bleach from the diffuser as you do not want bleach to enter your tank with fish in there. Rinse in plain water until you can't smell bleach on the diffuser any more.
  4. I got warned about 'bloat' with my Africans to the point where i was actually made paranoid about it; until i realised it was just that- paranoia, but marginally justified. Fed them what good african keepers would - spirulina this and that and sea weed and green this and what have you... and also fed them colour bits, cichlid gold, aro pellets, bloodworms, brineshrimp and meat - what is advised against. didn't lose a single fish, and boy were they healthy and active. Incidentally all fish foods are 'omnivorous' in that they all contain fish meal and shrimp meal. Even the spirulina ones.
  5. No you would not. Although I'd recommend a Rhinox 3000 for your tank. The Rhinox will not work with DIY
  6. Sorry to hear about the fish A, that really sucks.
  7. I am dreaming of a 4ft puffer tank! - Think of how happy they would be and awesome it would be to have a tank like that! But for now i have to be content with a small tank. PS- I'm puffer obsessed so will need updates everyday

 Here is mine this morning. Their patterns can change quite a lot as can their colours. There is another thread of mine in this section entitles "Lancelota camo" if that interests you too
  9. The Rotala gets red as the light increases. I got 2-3 sticks in my puffer tank 2 months ago from a local member and I cropped it as it grew. I now have 10 sticks that are really long and are growing horizontally along the surface of the water, sending roots down and are this lovely pinky champagne colour. It provides good canopy cover and looks so darn natural! Rotundifolia FTW!
  10. I'd recommend stargrass in there. It grows very dense and provides for perfect hiding places. Not to mention it looks awesome, and contrasts well with R. rotundifolia.
  11. That website is definitely not for the impulsive buyer, that's for sure! some fantastic pictures on there.

  13. that is inspiring! lovely collection of fish. i especially like the leleupi (sp?)
  14. It hurts when the prettiest leaves are the ones that make it to the top. it typically takes 2 days for a leaf to be at the top of the tank, so it's a good thing it's a fast growing plant.

  19. damn... that sucks. Erythromycin or furan II. any easily available broad spectrum antibiotic will do the trick really.
  20. here - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/16/ install that, and then follow the instructions
