  1. I'm sure they would need a swim bladder as well.
  2. read this! http://www.aquahobby.com/articles/e_ich2.php Thought you might like the article. so far the nicest and most accurate one I have read. I love its use of references, and it reinforces the concepts I have been using ever since I first started keeping fish to treat ich. I think most other articles are rubbish
  3. hmm.. maybe if i swapped out my heater on this tank I have..
  4. It's a terrible idea. way to pull the trigger before any one has taken action, or has even had the chance to. Tell me, has any one here written to the pet stores, fish stores etc and expressed concern? 1 phone call from a customer is all it took to get an entire line of cat toys scrapped in New Zealand. Sometimes it isn't what you do, its how you go about doing it. A little diplomacy and tact will take you further than if you charged the battlefield with all guns ablaze. I couldn't disagree more unfortunately. The answer is not more regulation, but perhaps lies in a little common sense and education.
  5. So you are proposing a referendum in the training practises to ensure that pet stores, fish stores and any pet care company train their employees, and educate them about the appropriate conditions for the fish?
  6. Agreed, I don't think the sale of nano tanks for the purpose of keeping goldfish for the entirety of their lives is good. Needless to say, it would not stop people from purchasing a tank for minnows and then fill it with goldfish. Trust me on this one. If shops here in NZ are selling shark cartilage as chondroitin supplements  the goldfish saga hardly makes it to the top of the list.
  7. Yea, I don't see why not... I have CL's with my discus.
  8. so when do i take possession of said spoon? bahahahhaha
  9. Hi bikbok, +1 to what Nav said. Also, I never have and am unlikely to half the dosage. Although I haven't had to deal with white spot in my home tanks for years, it is all too common a sight in stores. I have treated discus tanks with many fancy plecos with a full dose of white spot cure and salt. same deal with clown loaches and any other loach.
  10. Tetra, hikari and JBL conduct analysis on a per food basis. Now what that research is i do not know. i'd like to think that the days of smaller cat food being sold as fish food are gone...
  11. you're right.. they don't. all fish need a nice varied diet. i don't know how some discus keepers even have the time to enjoy the fish.. these international forum people spend so much time fussing over the darn things it's a miracle they have time for any thing else
  12. *yay* you're back +1 colourbits, prawn, other pellets, bloodworms, courgette (mine pick on it) and that's all you need. occasionally feed discus tucker or what ever else. Just because a fish has a great body shape, eats well and looks fine does not mean it is healthy. It might be the equivalent of a fat bloke in the KFC queue. variety is the key with feeding fish. That's why I stick to pellet foods and the other stuff mentioned above.
  13. nah. ebay them... then again. i think your plain old floaty one will be fine as opposed to a light refractometer. you may not need that unless you get a more complex system going on.
  14. you should be able to get salifert too. F2 search it.
  15. I just realised this post makes for 2 squabbles in 1 thread we are realising economies of scope now.
  16. well halfway between the search for the 3ft clown loach and the 6ft pleco, we discovered a few more species. Then we discovered a phat car. By the time we actually found our way back on track, everyone got to say what they had to. it was a long journey, but the search for such large specimens took us all over the globe. *totally worth it.
  17. hi. glad you found your way here.
  18. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=sexing+cherry+barbs the third link is quite nice. males are bright red.
  19. yes.. we decided on that yesterday
  20. so that's it? its over? tell us more! what happened!!!!
