  1. Yep, you win a full grown VIP chilli red arowana!! * *you have 30 minutes to claim your prize from me in person at my house in Auckland, otherwise it is null and void and you miss out.
  2. LOL your pics are as bad as mine!! I've noticed my green has darker fins with a slight redish tinge to them. Can't wait for mine to grow either!
  3. Dixon wins!! Hopefully better pics coming after work.
  4. Santa came early this year. Henward and SilviaS15 shhh!!
  5. At 27cm he's still growing, and watch out for the bn's, they're spinier than corys and if one gets stuck in his throat its all over...
  6. Awesome pics!! Those shinglebacks are beautiful.
  7. What are the dimensions of the tank? With the fish you're talking about footprint is more important than total litres. Make sure the ornate has a good head start on the oscars, otherwise it will end up as spaghetti. You might also want to train it to hand feed from an early age, otherwise it could be hard to get food to it with out the oscars getting it first. Most people here will shun you for mixing a frontosa with those fish, but plenty of people do. Keep the pH around 7 and it should be alright. The biggest problem would be the difference win growth rate between the front and the oscars. And for the substrate, just about anything will be fine with oscars, but the red grit you're talking about would be better for the bichir than pea gravel.
  8. Could work for a while, but I think the knife will get big enough to have a go at the hatchets, and the cories, which could lead to the death of both fish as they have stiff spiny fins that make them hard to swallow.
  9. Not really. I bet Caryl didn't save and pay cash for her house. If you can easily afford the repayments and are financially disciplined then you can make borrowing money work for you. Why wouldn't you take up the offer of interest free payments even if you had the cash? YAY xmas is just over 12 hours!!
  10. ^ I'll second that, if I'm free during the weekend and you need a hand moving the tanks I'd be happy to help, assuming there will be beers and a brai afterwards.
  11. I'm getting my xmas present tomorrow, so we'll be broke now and hopefully recovered by xmas. 8)
  12. Stink! Sorry to hear that dude. Hopefully Hollywood will be reasonable to deal with about it.
  13. Dad once said to me "I tried to make a living out of my hobby and all it did was turn my hobby into a chore", and I can tell you from first-hand experience it is true (well to a certain degree anyway).
  14. Have you tried asking the local butcher for an apprenticeship?? Hey, you said working with animals, you didn't say how!
  15. Why take a stab when you could Google or wiki.....
  16. From the sound of that article he already has, the instant McCain conceeded defeat suddenly the sun started shining out of Americas backside....
  17. Sheesh I'm starting to think the rest of the world is as stupid as America. I read an article in the Herald written by an American living in Europe, and suddenly over-night he has gone from being treated as the scum of the earth to a wonderful person. He spoke of other Americans living in other foreign countries, and how attitured towards Americans everywhere have instantly changed because of a new president. The fact still remains that it was a fairly close race (a heck of a lot closer to 50/50 than an overwhelming majority), but suddenly every American is no longer a gun-toting war-starting ignorant redneck but a wonderful peace-loving open-minded liberal. Regardless of who they voted for in this, and in past, elections... :-?
  18. I've got some chilli seedlings from a small orange bell-shaped pepper given to me by the old indian guy next door. They're long over-due to be planted out, there's about 30 of them in a little pot that I grew from seed. He said they're pretty hot and I'd believe him. Got some habanero seeds to sow too, when I get around to it...
  19. I can't help but wonder just how many people voted for him simply because he's not a republican, with out any idea of what he actually stands for. American politics is laughable, its all about celebrity.
  20. Of course its not in New Zealand, there are no snakes in NZ, never have been, never will be, end of story... 8) Good stuff Iszac, how big are the parents, the babies look tiny!
  21. I have no idea as I'm not aware of the origins of that form. The fact that they don't 'breed true' (ie crossing two EBJD's won't get you a spawn of EBJD's) would suggest to me that it is most certainly not a seperate species, or even subspecies, and is most likely either a colour morph selectively bred by us. Interesting that the A. rubescens have been given species rank. I think in any situation, unless you can be 100% positive in your identification then it is best to call them an unknown entity.
  22. I just noticed that in the sump of my new 5' there is a really bad accumulation of this kind of coating! I think the high protein food oculd be right, as I dumped 20 feeder goldfish in there to help it cycle and the ornate has slowly been picking them off, there's about 6 left now I think. I'm going to try scoop it out using a bowl tonight.
