  1. 24 c lower end of their range and still only small amount of females?. I have heard that PH has a part to play when determining sex also.... but then in other readings off the net I have seen 50/50 ratios in 26 c water :-?
  2. LFS has just got some of these in and all males priced at $49. Three in the tank and 2 are very small, 1 is smallish but not a bad looker!. Why so many males around?. Maybe like me and bred them at higher temps :-?
  3. Must have dropped their prices from last week.. viewtopic.php?f=24&t=48741
  4. Going by the gill plate method, i'm struggling to see any females!
  5. Am sorry to hear. Like you say, maybe Adults can do a good job. Good luck with your next spawn. Dan.
  6. Cool. Thanks for you advice P44. How's the Lancelota Whiptail spawn going?
  7. When you say to seperate, do you mean males from females? And for what reason? Thanks.
  8. Really? I think I must have alot of boys then.... What do the girls look like at this size because I can't tell the difference! Maybe all boys
  9. Bored so thought I would add some pics..... Need to get a decent camera!
  10. Haha. But more likely a plant eater than a fish eater....
  11. Cool. Hopefully sterile....
  12. SamH. Are grass carp not illegal here?. I know or have heard of people employed to clear weed clogged drains with "sterile" Japanese grass carp if this is what you were refering to?
  13. Hey Bikbok. Your fish could be young Rudd and the predator is most likely Perch. A great predatory fish.
  14. Sorry to hear but glad you have 6 remaining
  15. Hey Land_lubber. How's the fry doing?
  16. Still nice to know you have these in your area as I very rarely hear them in Hamilton.
  17. People don't often hear or know the other sounds a morepork can make. Slightly similar to the Kiwi call? http://www.kiwi-wildlife.co.nz/Sounds/morepork.mp3
  18. Yeah hopefully a random sick one as looking at them today they all look good. And it's not the maggots but the eggs that i have been feeding them so are a perfect size for the fry at present
  19. They are all around 2cm and are a lot more active, actively seeking out food and coming up at feeding time rather than hiding in the leaves. Even though they are not much bigger in length they seem to increased in bulk size. I still have no idea what happened to the sick fry which had turned almost white. Initially I thought it was dead and went to get it out but it took off, and the other fry seemed to chase it.
  20. Have had one of my fry turn very pale and it looks as if it has had it. No idea why as the rest look A ok. Have done a partial water change earlier on and have been feeding blowfly eggs to them!, which they seem to relish. Any ideas?
  21. As Supasi said, Maybe a frog? http://www.teara.govt.nz/en/frogs/3/1
  22. I know the morepork has a call, a bit like a screech which sounds nothing like the typical "morepork call". Could be this...
  23. Well done Land_lubber. Now for the next phase
