  1. http://www.mathopenref.com/polygonirregulararea.html work out the area of the base using the methods in the above link then x the area by the height either way you will end up having to take more measurements i suggest measuring the diagonals rather than trying to measure angles
  2. i got a blue snakeskin one in the next lot of fry but gave those away to a friend , hes had them ages now so id hate to whats popped up in there now i kept the adults for a while with my africans the males i had got eaten gave the females away bout 8 months ago , they popped out some interesting coloured fry in another mates tank but hes gone to cichlids now so all new babies are being eaten
  3. i dont have guppies anymore the first post was about a year ago

    Silicone?

make sure the poly is completly dry and clean the glass first then leave for at least a day before you fill up the tank or longer if there is really thick areas of silicone
  7. would that grow in an african tank? i love it
  8. hmm perhaps i use a few rabbit pellets ive heard plant like those arent they the ultimate diy root tabs lol nice organic fertiliser
  9. well could go the crickets the plants are growing ok but not great was kinda thinking as the broms are feature plants and they dont feed much from their roots but rather from the water collecting in their leaves and bugs etc drowning in it and leaves falling in it maybe that it would have an effect i understand the frogs absorb though thier skin easily and the fert i wouild be looking at would be nil nitogen weak kinda stuff with trace elements like flourish fert considering its safe for fish does anebody think it would be safe for frogs assuming a low dosage (theres less than 20l water anyway) im aware the light should be good enough now as both tubes are new the frogs also have plenty of shaded areas to retreat to and the uvb bulb is only 2%uvb but they have been a lot more active and colourful since i added it. i just dont know the science of how the plants absorb co2 from the air and wether XL would help with extra carbon or not i guess there is nothing stoppping me from adding a few drops to the water in the broms once or twice a week see if it does any thing
  10. im wondering if i dose flourish xl to my vivaruim water, would it have any positive effects on terrestial plants or marginal plants ?bearing in mind all plants are watered with the vivarium water one a day also im assuming it would be safe for frogs at normal dosages , anybody know otherwise? im also considering using the flourish ferts , plants are broms, figs , ivy , spanish moss and a few others lighting is 1 26w exoterra 2.0 ubv cfl (around 8200k) and 1 powerglo 15w t8
  11. hmm maybe coils of black polythene on the roof to help keep the cost down
  12. they can breathe atmospheric air through an organ on thier head afaik all anabantanoids are the same gouramis etc . this is what ensures their survival in places like rice paddys- muddy ,hot, water short on oxygen .
  13. thats what they would say ! even the manufactuors of the epoxies will say not to use it as they dont want to be responsible for any losses. ive used several different types of epoxy the cheapest one and easiest to use was equiss epistixx clear but doesnt set as hard as more solventy epoxies(a lot more expensive) but ive also used acylic house paint on its own and under epoxy and had no problems. this was all rockwork used for his backgrounds . you want low v.o.c. acylic and one without mould inhibitors. also another hint for carving is a heat gun to melt the poly or a pencil sized butane torch
  14. quartz is inert wont effect the the water if your filter hasnt been running for ages you will need to cycle the tank again rinse trhe filter mediua out before using it
  15. you can drown flys then dprinkle salt on them and they come back to life
  16. i have a 25cm red spot plec in my african tank and a albino sen , you can sometimes get away with other fish in there i also have a breeding pair of convicts in there you sort of have to be sensible about it though like you wouldnt expect neons to last or enjoy living with africans i had guppies in there for ages too but they ate all the males and left the females alone i wouldnt try it now as my fish are bigger and would chomp the female guppies in half
  17. just do it LA im sure you have the room , mite be weetbix for a few more years though
  18. once you try africans you will forget all about plants
  19. i have a big pond now but after todays heat im kind of thinking it will be no good for them. southern encounter is a neat idea though they have some big display tanks with some smaller natives in them in the foyer before you go in mite have to put guppies or danios or barbs out in the pond instead
  20. i got a pond full of mozzie larvae will save me catching more from the creek

  23. understanding the tax side of things regardless of having a accountant or notwill help. you may not need to set up as buseness depending on how much money you are going to earn . keeping accurate books and all related reciepts organised is a big help there are so many small things you can claim a tax credit on and they all add up and may help pay your acc bill at the end of the financial year
  24. it doesnt really matter i just painted mine the same colour as the front on the ones that used paint the cemix one i painted too the ones i used epoxy on i epoxied
