  1. you can get led lights that can replace those 10w 12v halogens i think 3w would be the equiv of a 50w halogen
  2. thats awesome i brought a tep top mice blue that i was sure was male had really bold egg spots nice colourful and the biggest in the tank at the lfs 4 months later its skinny and i think its sick till i notice its holding and is actually a female so stripped it and gave it away
  3. its 3/4" pipe i think its used for electric conduit as well as some plumbing applications you can get it at bunnings and the like im sure it would be good for 1000ph but i would go to a bigger size pipe if your going to flow much more than 800lph just to be on the safe side one small blockage could reduce the flow enough to spill it at that level
  4. ive heard that about the stunting any ideas what a normal growth rate would be?
  5. can ya overfeed them? whats a good food to get him growing fast ? hes a funny bugger likes hanging out with my fire eel (similar sized)
  6. ive been considering the same idea but cheaper possibly along the line of what wilson used to have but with a sump
  7. good idea ira except a lot of them are 12v a.c a $2 bridge rectifier would fix that though
  8. yea definatly i have a few ideas and have built a few hoods home ph i pmed you last week is not working though no dial tone for some reason cant get hold of vodafone either damn it so just txt me
  9. i think a lot of fig8 puffers are imported in FW too while salt is a lot more ideal for them they survive
  10. SamH you want to wire it before the ballast i.e. using the wires going into the ballast rather than the ones coming out and going to the bulb as the bulb uses a higher voltage. for a project like that depending on what size MH you use you may be better off using a 240v fan instead of 12v cpu fans in saying that you might not need a fan i run a 150w metal halide over my 5 ft the bulb is 30cm from the glass the glass gets warm but not hot and the back of the hood is open so air can get around it
  11. before you go put salt in your tank :-? check and see how salty if at all the tanks at the shop where they are coming from is no use geting it to 1.008 then finding out they were in freshwater the hard way
  12. a couple cheap ebay waver makers + suspended lighting = no problem with flow or aeration and nice light ripples across the substrate. the hood needs not have a top on it just high enough so that people cant get at it with lockable access for you just remeber you want to be able to stick your hand in any holes just in case you have to recover a sick fish at some point but so far looking good good to see a big project like this
  13. i had a no name tank that used small cpu fans to cool the light ballast the power suppy was a small transformer mounted inside the hood this was rusted out when i first got the tank so i pulled apart a 3-12v multitap transformer (the kind with big black box that plugs straight into the main and has a switch for voltage) i was lucky enough that the mount fitted around the new transformer so it went straight in and i slowed the fans down a bit to run at 6v as they were noisy at 12v http://www.jaycar.co.nz/productResults.asp?FORM=CAT one like this will be small enough to fit inside your hood just if you dont know what you are doing get someone who does to install it it can be wired into the light switch to work when the lights are on possibly add another one at a later date to run the leds
  14. lol got the collection of sonic games on ps2 love the pinball
  15. concrete on its own wont go too dark a if you want i can show you samples of two different methods i have used that have been submerged for over a year and 4 months respectively one is cemix patch painted wit acrylic and the other is decent epoxy with river sand on it both are rock solid interestly enough sand over epoxy retains that wet look in being darker than what it is dry
  16. any idea why a hedgehog would lose half its spikes over nite with no signs of attack wounds?
  17. yea ive heard that about wallabies ive also heard that they dont taste so flash ( a division of the company i work for is into pest control and the guys who work there have tryed everything they have shot! rough buggers they are)
  18. when you think of t5 lights there are 3 kinds t5 refers to the thickness of the tube but there is HO and VHO (high output and very high output ) normally aquarium t5s (that cost a lot of money) are HO or VHO the ones in the blue planet range are just ordinary t5s so less wattage but thats not necessarily a bad thing as the bulbs are a lot cheaper and can be brought at lighting wholesalers in different colour temperatures a lot cheaper than the LFS
  19. there you go agin LA trying to twist my rubber arm
  20. i like it tie some food to it see if the fish chase it it could come in hand for delivering food to my fire eel so i dont have to get my arm wet
