i noticed a dario dario in a tank at animates a while back i thought it was a cichlid too
  2. lamp specialists south island limited its just a blue coloured tube no uv output like a marine blue
  3. its probably best to buy a hydrometer they are quite cheap and are used to measure the salinity of water bummble bee gobies dont need a lot of salt anywhere between 1.002 and 1.008 is fine (1.000 being freshwater and 1.024 being sea water) at these levels of salt other fish would survive but its not ideal for them. the hardest part of keeping bumble bee gobies is feeding them they are fussy eaters and like live food ive had some sucess with krill or plankton(freeze dried) but its not a good idea to rely on it
  4. if you are talking bout africans a lot of ppl use a marine blue and a marine white but that can be expensive. i used a industrial blue and a philips graphica on my first african tank the industrial blue brings out the blue a bit more ansd the graphica has a 95%cri so brings out heaps of colours but is too yellow looking without the blue tube a hell of a lot cheaper than marine tubes
  5. viewtopic.php?f=13&t=40235&start=15 its in the photos on this page it was like $17 for 20l

  9. just wondering many of us in here have usernames that dont relate to our real names or businesses ive heard a couple of good stories from TT members about how they got their usernames just wondering if theres more funny?interesting stories out there ill start with mine it was in 4thform maths a friend commemted on soimething silly i had done and said "tim you're not exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer are u?" "In fact your not even a knife you're a spoon, im gunna call you that from now on and tell every1 its your nickname" well ten years later and in different parts of the country more people call me spoon than tim a lot of people dont even know my real name
  10. for a reflector buy some thin aluminum sheet at at bunnings and attach it behind the tubes its quite shiny and not too badly priced
  11. we got our male tony neutered so we didnt end up with babies however we may still have to get the female molly fixed as she dominates tony and wont leave him alone. its also difficult to explain to kids why the mummy rabbit is doing that to the daddy rabitt  it cost the same as a cat at our vet $80 but it will vary a lot from vet to vet ive found tony to be a much nicer rabbit since he was fixed too
  12. it may help to tell the experts here a bit about their diet too , just to see if some improvements could be made to speed their recovery
  13. the coral will rise the ph up high probably not a problem atm though the grey black could be algae
  14. because its so deep the lighting could be an issue for plants perhaps a 70w MH would be better or at least a few 2ft VHO t5 tubes. the circular tubes would be near impossible to find in a higher colour temperature so you would pretty much be stuck with a yellowish light(halogen would be the same)
  15. i reckon congos too they are a really nbice fish i nver seen a big school of them before
  16. i got made redundant 8 months ago its one of thge best things that ever happened to me stay positive and make use of your opportunities if it happens to you
