  1. Might as well mention I've been fiddling with the wiring and haven't actually managed to get it to work. One 15 watt bulb lights fine, but three 15 watts doesn't work right. I've tried wiring them in a series the power wire from one going to the next to the next with a starter for each. Absolutely nothing happens. That's pretty much how the wiring diagrams say to do it. I've tried with a single starter for all 3 and they blink and try to start, but don't manage to fully start. (I haven't tried just 2 yet) I've also tried wiring all the tubes in parallel with seperate starters and only one will start at a time. I wonder if sharing the starter would work, all 3 tubes going through a single starter, hmmm, probably not. So, either it's not going to work, which I've HAD something similar working before. Or I need some slightly different equipment.
  2. That's about what my power bill is. That's my marine tank and 5 FW tanks ranging from 100L to 440L plus a spa pool.

    sump in f/w tank

Google for durso standpipe and overflows in marine tanks. Should come up with heaps. I don't think there will be any difference between one for a marine tank and a FW. You might want to be a lot more careful about keeping the overflow combs clean though, because I'd imagine if the tank is planted you risk having the combs blocked by leaves. So, set up the sump so the pump is in a small enough chamber on its on that it won't overflow the tank or maybe even make the top of the overflow half an inch or so from top of the tank so it's totally open in case of an emergency.
  4. I think the most common 4'er is 4'x18"x16"
  5. In general, any fish will eat any fish that will fit into its mouth. You may get lucky though, but no garauntees. I don't think my Severums would bother larger tetras, but, neons, being pretty tiny...Try cardinals instead, they're generally a bit bigger than neons and are much nicer anyway.
  6. 250 liters IS the size of the tank. I find it much more useful than how most of the old people just go "It's a 4 foot." There are about a billion different variations on 4 foot that make that totally useless. I have 3 different 4 foots myself.
  7. Which brings us to the obvious conclusion, Golden barbs have a longer attention span than you do. hehehehe

    New Tank Pics

It does that most evenings a little before the lights go out. That pic was taken around 10:20 and the lights go out around 11:30.
  9. The difference will still be well within the IDGAD range.

    New Tank Pics

Here's a pic of my hydnophora and my brain.
  11. Yup, those are the ones. I was going to get a few but talked myself out of it because I don't really have the room.

    Pressurised CO2

I'd imagine 2lpm would be enough CO2 for a tank about the size of your average swimming pool.
  13. 5 tanks? Pfft, lightweight. I have 7. (Shaddup anyone else that has more than that. )
  14. Waitwaitwait...Redline torpedo barbs for $50?!? Last time I was in Animates they had them for about $15!
  15. White would be about right for a 15,000 kelvin bulb. If you have a pink one it'll be something like a grow lux, I don't know what their kelvin rating is exactly, but after a bit of research it looks like gro lux are 3400.
  16. Most of my tanks are around 27-28° But, i don't have any goldfish.
  17. I'm skeptical of 6 foot plecos and 2 foot oscars. But easily a lot of 6 foot catfish.
  18. If you're thinking of buying a bunch of redspots and yellow black eyed bristlenoses and going for a roadtrip...Yeah.
  19. I'm not really sure you CAN overfeed fish. But you can pollute the tank with food. The ideal way of feeding them would be feeding them constantly, like a small trickle of flakes or pellets into the tank. But, that would obviously pollute a tank pretty quick.
  20. There's also things like clamp meters that you can just clamp onto the power cords and they'll tell you how many amps it's using. They're kinda pricy though. But, I'd like to get one. it'd be a cool toy.
