  1. Mine... Nitrates:2.5(Not sure why it's gone up a bit) PH: 8.1 KH: 7.4 Calcium: 400 Salinity: 1.026 The KH is the only thing I really need to work at keeping up, DIY topoff still working flawlessly(Ok, working flawlessly now that I've corrected a small manufacturing flaw)

    Melafix

Tea tree oil, actually. I like the smell of it.

    Best Small Plec

Bristlenoses are going to be the only bristlenoses size plec you're going to get for a reasonable price. Dunno why you're asking about synos though, totally different fish.

That's what I was thinking looking at Pies tank with his 20K. I thought it looked pretty washed out compared to the lower kelvin ones. I'm thinking 14K would be a good middle ground.

    Lighting questions

Everything I've heard says DE is better, not because they're being overdriven. Because their design makes it possible to build a more effective reflector. I'm not totally sure what makes DE reflectors better than SE, but...*Shrug* It seems the general consensus is that a 150 watt DE puts almost as much light into the tank as a 250watt SE, 1 250watt DE almost as much as a 400 watt SE.

Hmmm, Ok then if that's the case it looks like most bulbs I could buy from the US should work fine. Good to know that's an option.

    Lighting questions

Anyone happen to know what kind of ballast an arcadia professional deluxe 250watt MH is? Specifically, Probe start, pulse start, HQI or whatever? It's easier finding the average heart rate of roswell aliens on the internet than details on that pendant...
  8. Yeah, that's a good idea. Put in a sink or at least a drain somewhere and a water tap.
  9. Probably aren't allowed rotifers in because they can't be sure there aren't any rabid genetically engineered kiwi eating koi fry in with them.
  10. I'll probably do similar. Maybe next paycheck I'll look into it. Mine are 2X250 DEs So, uhh...That's similar wattage per gallon.
  11. To sterilize I'd just fill the sink up with water, pour in a cup or two of bleach, let the filter run that for a few minutes, take the filter apart, give it a good rinse then run it on fresh water for a few minutes. I'd say running boiling water through it would be a really, really bad idea.

    leeches

    I *HATE* leeches!
  13. Depends on if it's gravel or sand. Gravel only takes a little rinse, sand you'll be rinsing until you have a bucket full of nothing but water.

    auckland heat

I think the best would be option 1.5 Blow right through the middle so there's some air on the water and a bit of air blowing the heat from the lights away.
  15. They have better than bunnings, or anything in NZ. They have Home Depot!

    Thanks

Hey, Cracker! I have 3 aptasias you can have! What'll that get me?

    auckland heat

The fans would be a LOT cheaper to run than the chiller.
  18. Haha, That light holder's the same style as the one on my tank. (It came with the tank! I didn't make it!)

    auckland heat

Tank's down to 25.3. Raised the light a few inches and spun the louvers on the fan a bit so it's blowing more down onto the water.
  20. Oh, and red tailed sharks turn into absolute pricks when they get bigger.
  21. The severum would probably try and eat the smaller fish in your tank, bristlenoses, angels, cories, the platties and swordtails should all be fine. I've found them to be pretty calm fish. Same for convicts when they're on their own, in my limited experience with convicts anyway.
  22. Not looking particularly closely at the overpriced plastic cladded tanks.

    auckland heat

Up to 30°C without problems? Hmmm, Ok, and I was getting a little concerned because mine was up to 26.5!

    Thanks

Wait...Gift corals?! What'd you do to get that so I can get one too!
