Mine is just empty with the grill on the top and bottom and a couple handfulls of the big noodles loose in it. Oh, and some really coarse sponge thing on the bottom.

My favorite as far as ease of maintenance, that I've used, are 404s with the connector with a lever to cut off the water. I find them very easy to clean most of the time. As far as performance 403s are my favorite, but they're a pain in the ass to clean, I hate the hose connectors, but they seem to run forever without slowing down, unlike the 404s which seem VERY finicky. The worst filter I have is an Ehiem 2213(I think) It takes a week or so before it's down to a trickle and it's still perfectly clean!

Unless you scoop up the beach sand along with buckets of water there isn't enough salt in it to matter, especially if you give it a rinse before putting it in the tank. And most white sands will be mostly calcium and you'll end up with a perfect african cichlid PH tank.

Yeah, the light from one should be heaps. Possibly even too much, I tried just a little 8 watt PC light as a moonlight on my cichlid tank once, even with a cloth wrapped around it, it was too much light and kept the fish up.

You shouldn't have a problem building up enough pressure, it will just take longer. Especially if you start out with less yeast.

I dunno, I think ideally you'd collect all the detritus in a spong that you could clean every day. That way it's actually being physically removed. That's detritus that's too big for it to be skimmed out.

Most water based paints should be fine as long as you have good ventilation and cover the tank. If you're really worried, you can try running an airline from a pump outside the house or in another room to the tank and covering the top of the tank so no air can get in. You'll just need a small hole or two for the air that's being pumped in to get out. But, that's pretty overkill.

I haven't done any water changes in over a month because I've been saving my water for after I dose my tank with SFWE, going to do it this weekend. But, I normally ainm for about 10-15%/week depends on if I have enough water, I've been really slack lately.

What I don't get is how kelvin ratings can differ. It's supposed to be the overall color compared to the color of some material heated to X kelvin, right? So, variations in the specific spectrum shouldn't matter(As far as Kelvin rating) as long as the overall color is the same? Seems the same as different company's thermometers having 30°C at different temperatures.

My brazilians never nipped any tails. Red Eyed puffers are supposed to be the worst.

They had brazilians a month or so ago, but they were covered with whitespot. Same for ones at Wet Pets around the same time. So, obviously a shipment came in, but they were sick.

I don't have any puffers any more. I had 2 brazilian puffers. One just died, the other was killed in a power outage. Trying to get some more though, we have TONS of snails for them to eat, just can't seem to find any. Anyone happen to know of somewhere with some brazilian or figure 8 puffers?
