Hi Ian Yes I have space for it, I was rather impressed by the size it can grow too, the one I have just brought is 13cm apprx at the moment. I think it will be neat watching this fish do its thing

Yes the lady in a local petshop is really nice and I reckon she would be good to get stuff in from somewhere else, I brought my RES from her.

I used to use Silica sand, wash the clay out and it leaves really nice golden sand. Easy to wash too

I'm actually heading down to CHCH to pick this one up, I live half way between Nelson and Blenheim, must be close to previous posters And yeah the petshops around here are okay but not a lot of selection aye.

I would love one more but I have actually never seen them before, and I'm always scouting out the local petshops lol. I wonder if they are hard to get a hold of??

I will eventually put more fish in with it when I know what would be best.

I have googled this fish but its nicer when other owners of this fish type can tell me directly about them, or maybe someone who knows a bit about them, and its going into a tank by itself so no worries there, but thanks anyway.

I just brought two of these today and I am wondering how big they will eventually be. I'm keeping them in a aquarium, not a pond.

Yeah I'm hoping he will come around to doing that! Maybe I should just keep playing dumb to the gravel vac....although its hard to pull hubby away from his freaky Carnivorous plants for too long so I may have to book him in haha!

Thank you. Zi is now in deep water and he is finally using his basking area It looks like he loves to swim and hes not so skitterish now.

Well I have the turtle in with the fish since last night and he doesn't seem bothered by them..in fact the fish seem more curious about Zi. I do understand that he will probably eat a few as he gets older so I wouldn't put my prize fish in there with him. But so far the tank looks great, Zi is having fun swimming around and finally basking and the fish are just being fish

Hey I was just talking to hubby and we are wondering if we could keep Zi (baby RES), in with our fish?? We have Neon Tetras and Zebra Danios?

Can a baby RES handle a tank with deep water? 30-40cm approx deep. Oh and should I be taking him out for some drying time for his shell? If he is 2.5 inches long, how old would he be??

lol at the lost fish!! Seriously these gravel vacs annoy me!! Meanwhile hubby comes in and gets it going no problems but I'm the gammy one that has issues with it and he has no idea why LOL. :lol: So because my tanks are not fully mature yet will that be why my nitrite and nitrate levels are high??

Hi all, how long does it take you all to clean out your tanks, how often do you do it....how do you do it, I brought a Gravel Vac and have no idea how to use the damn thing, I just can't seem to get it to work, I have 4 tanks running and today I'm getting really down about the whole thing as my nitrate levels are too high, so are my nitrite levels...yes my tanks are still cycling, but it seems so neverending at the moment. I'm just griping so bear with me lol...but, any advice on how to clean tanks properly, how often and how would be great thanks. oh and filters....I have Stingray filters but I'm wondering how good/bad they are?? Any suggestions on good, reasonably priced filters? I'm not the richest of people so go easy on the suggestions please lol

Okay so after having Zi (turtle), for over a week he is still really skittery and I don't even think he is using his basking rock as I never see him on it and every time I check its dry. He is eating really well because all of his food disappears lol. He is 2.5inches. Should I be taking him outside for some sun/dry time?? Do res turtles get friendly or do they stay like Zi is now...scared of us
