  1. Ordered one and got home to find my wife had also ordered and my son had aslo ordered so we got 3 delivered independently. I got a Snow White DVD & book ..... all our kids are way older so gave this away to someone with young kids My wife got a bottle of Piz Buin sun lotion SPF10 ... no use going into winter & even in summer she doesn't stay out enough in the sun to warrant using it ... will probably be given away. My sun got 10 bags of Craisons ..... best used by Feb-2010 .... to get something back for the expense I'll use a packet a day up in my lunch. So was it worth it .... NO! Would we buy it again .... NO! (but then we said that after the previous one & still got suckered into this one). btw ..... Off The Back also do Bags Of Crap and theirs are marginally bettter. A new kid on the block is Catch Of The Day ... seem to be giving way better deals than either of the other two so worth taking a look at. regards dcase
  2. Had a navman ..... never held charge well and was clunky Moved to a garmin ..... not bad but sound would go all distorted randomly and dealer could never find cause Now have a TomTom (model with bluetooth) and it is fantastic ... tells me when I go over speed limits, warns me of static speed cameras and gets regular updates from the net ... would highly recommend the TomTom (even a lot easier to use than the others). regards dcase
  3. maybe a siamese algae eater or 2 would help
  4. A lot of topics discuss filtration for specific requirements (various tank sizes, existing filters, etc) and many different views are expressed on the likes of 2nd filters, pre-filters, fluidised filters, etc. Those views are given by highly knowledgeable fishkeepers with a lot of experience and I respect alll of them. I thought it would be good to encapsulate the different views and have chosen a theoretical 200 litre tank as I think it is a good average size to base an opinion on. So, if you had a new 200 litre tank to setup from scratch, what filtration system would you choose and why? I also know some fish have special requirements so to keep it simple lets make the 200 litre tank a community tank (rather than say, Discus or Cichlids). BTW I have several tanks including a 200 litre. I am always looking to improve my setups which is one of the reasons why I look at the topics on the forum. regards kiln_lane
  5. Can't see anyone has mentioned that Animates is owned by MasterPet (in case anyone was wondering)
  6. The tank is a 200 litre with plenty of hiding places. regards dcase
  7. I need some suggestions on what to do with an agressive Keyhole Cichlid in a community tank. I intiially had two and this one perpetually harrassed the other (even stripping some fins off) ... it evenchased and attacked platies, SAE's and a Rainbow Shark. I though the answer may be to get another around the same size thinking 3 would be better (maybe spead the agression). But all I got was the other two totally harrassed with bits of fins missing. Also tried rearranging tank, etc The agressive one is now in jail (a floating holding tank) and peace reigns in the tank .... little bugger was hard to catch too, had to strip everything out of the tank to get him The other two are getting on fine now with no problems. All 3 are small (young) but the bully is slightly larger. The problem now is canI fix the agression or does he go down the road (and who'd want him) Advise greatfully received. regards dcase
  8. They didn't want to call it a thank (instead of tank) ... did they????
  9. Not available to see now .... TradeMe have pulled it
  10. I had it, tried Flourish and other remedies .... only thing that worked was a pair of SAE's ... cleaned it up overnight and it's never come back .... good luck with it
  11. It's supposedly an Aqua Fun Day as opposed to an Animats specilals day ..... so would expect it to have Aquarium themed specials!!!
  12. was in Moorehouse Ave store today .... they told me one is coming up in Septmber
  13. I'd go for something with style ..... an EH Holden
  14. On the off chance .... maybe someone who has lost a tank (AR620) has a spare cover (silver colour) they could sell .... the piece that contains the filtration unit. If so I would appreciate if you could PM me .... thanks regards David
  15. couple things I'd like to say: It's absolutely, not apsolutely & Eat the crusts
  16. I had a Navman & traded it for a Garmin (which I selected after much research). I t has the wide screen and as well as telling me to turn right in xxx meters it also tells me the street name, my Navman never gave the street name (maybe newer models do now). The other handy thing is it has bluetooth connectability with my cellphone ... it acts as a handsfree kit. And all this will run straight from the battery, if reqd, for many hours ... my Navman had to be plugged into the lighter socket all the time (and also had lots of trouble initially locating satellites when first turned on). Anyway, that's my tuppence worth .....
  17. Hi .. I am paying a visit to Wellington this week & Auckland next week. While there I thought I might look in on a LFS or 2. What recommendations are there as to the top 2 in each city? Thanks
  18. Definitely Siamese Algae Eaters + UV Filter Had it bad, tried Flourish and all sorts of other things but put in 2 SEA's + UV filter & all gone in 2 days and never came back. Good Luck
  19. also other places such as McDonalds Sydenham, up by the Movie Theatre at Ricarton Mall... if everyone can keep adding to the list you might get pretty good coverage (be able to stop at the nearest place each day)
  20. exactly the way I work supasi ..... so simple I can't see why people have issues with it.
  21. I measure up items allowing for pacaging size, check against NZ Post rates and add $1 for tape, boxes, etc. For example, if NZ Post cost was $3.50 I would put $4.50 P&P (and it is P&P not just post cost). When I put that on an auction I assume bidders will factor that into the cost .... I know I do when I buy (I look at the all up price to see if it is worth it). Generally I don't buy unless there is a P&P (sometimes I have to ask for it though). Sometimes I calculate wrong and if I get away with cheaper postage I keep it ..... conversely if it costs more I wear it (can't see too many being happy to pay more than they expected)
  22. I have one of the valve gadgets that fits on my tap .. the tap is a combined hot/cold (with a lever to move either side to change temp). My wife controls the tap with a hand on the steel nozzle of the tap (that way she can feel the temp of the water flowing through). I have the other end of the hose and feel the water flowing into the tank (and also keep an eye on the temp gauge). Generally I never have to say the water's too hot or too cold as my wife manages it pretty well. Also in Chch we are lucky with the water so don't have to leave it sitting. I do 30% water changes every 2-3 weeks with no probs and the whole process is very quick as the valve sucks the water out while I gravel vac .. makes it all quite simple
  23. I had huge probs with black beard algae .... got 2 SAE's and they hoovered it all up within a couple of days ... they have grown considerably in the last 8-10 months but still go around hoovering the plants ... I ensure I don't over feed the tank, this discourages the algae in the first place and encourages my community to consume any that does grow. good luck
  24. How did you go tonight? re subs ... I emailed the secretary last night saying I'd like to join but couldn't make tonights meeting .... said I could pay via a net payment immediately ... but haven't heard anything back! regards
