  1. Hi .... I have a male I put in a 23 ltr tank and thought he might like some company .... fine for 2 weeks .... then the bigger female became agressive to the male, harassing him, ripping his fins to shreds ... she would latch on to his tail and he would drag her around tying to shake her off. I have now put the female in an isolation tank but wonder what triggered this considering they were getting along fine? regards dcase
  2. Thx Caryl Will keep a watching brief for now .... it continus to swim for hours on end bum down & head up jsut under surface level .... at other times it descends and schools with the other Pearl Danios quite happily .... seems to feed all right too regards
  3. Hi Danio is still exhibiting same symptoms ...... anyone out there with an idea on this? regards
  4. Hi Tonight have noticed one of my Pearl Danios swimming up near water level (just under it) and seems to be sucking in air although I cant see him break the surface. I have had the tank stable for 6-7 months, readings are all fine and other fish (incl. Pearl Danios) are all fine. There is no physical issue I can see although fish couldbe slightly bigger than usual (maybe a bit bloated) although I can't be sure ... I have sevral of varying sizes.l What can lead to his sort of behaviour and how should it be best treated? regards
  5. Has anyone had any experience with he Lifegard Aquarium Filter System ..... http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/p ... catid=3627 regards
  6. Hi Ira - not really stressing over 4 plugs ... just seeing if I have any other options for 4 plugs times however many tanks I end up with regards
  7. Sump would be god but would not solve main issue ... .... of having 4 devices in the tank ... filter, heater, UV Steriliser & Airpump .... each with it's own power cord, etc & sure an impellor could break but so could the multi box I have servicing the power cords. mine is a 90 litre tank (although I am looking at setting up more in the garage where I have 4 empty tanks) and am thinking another four paoer cords for each (what a nightmare) ... it's got to be easier. Thx for the responses regards
  8. Is there any external filter that thats as well as doing UV sterilisation? regards

    Tank Dividers

Thx Bill ... exactly what I was after regards
  14. Hi Am interested in ideas on how to make tank dividers .... I now have a spare tank thats quite large and want to divide it into 3 smaller sections .... but with only one heater, filter, etc. As a section will be used for fry I am especialy interested in how to allow water to circulate without letting fry escape. How have others gone about this .... & any pics would be welcomed regards
  15. We've got the same ones .... nevr had them like this before and dady long legs with wings is a very good description.
  16. Hi ... I have my tank in a situation where it gets some direct sunlight at certain times of day (can't place it anywhere else) ... got lots of green algae and solved it with the addition of 2 items: 1) a UV steriliser 2) a car window shade (the side window fold out mesh suction cup variety) stuck on to the sunnier side of the tank Now water is pretty much clear although at end of every 2 weeks just before my 40% water change I get some green spotting (I really have to look for it to find it) which I use a scrubber to remove. Good luck
  17. I have one of the gadgets you were contemplating at the start of the thread .... it works perfectly for me (cut my time for a water change down by 80%). You do need the metal adaptor ... the plastic one was useless. Also a kink free hose is a lot easier to use & coil afterwards. Use a hose connector to join both ends when coiled up to save any spillage. I connect it up with my gravel vac and vac as the water is sucked out and when I have drained enough it's just a matter of tweaking the valve to reverse the water flow (we're in Chch so water is fine going straight into tank). I'm lucky as my wife helps and controls the tap mixer while I feel/monitor the water going in to ensure a good temperature & the fish seem to love it.
  18. Can someone give me a list of the selected pet shops the mag is available at ... thx
  19. but realised some will get very large so now have 2 more tanks ... one is relatively small and was going to be a hospital/isolation tank and the other is quite large .. I'm also looking to get some more. Will possibly set several up in the garage (already have some spare heaters, etc for the) The plecos were labelled as Plecostomus Bristlenose when I bought them and they are approx 5cms long, Mollys would be about 3cms ... the biggest fish would be the cichlid at about 7cms. The clown loaches 3-4cms ... they seem a bit slow to realise food is about then when the do realise the chase everyone that is eating (even the Cichlid) trying to get the food off them, instead of grabbing their own ... net result is they end up getting less than the others. Thanks
  20. Hi After 2-3 months of everything being fine I now have some issues developing in my tank. It is a community tank with 3 plecos, 3 peppered catfish, 7 neon tetras, 6 harlequin tetras, 6 pearl danios, 3 clown loaches, 2 black mollys, a keyhole ciclhid, 2 siamese algae eaters & a siamese fighter. Ammonia, nitrate, nitrite all show as negligable (and I do a 40% water change every 2 weeks, with the next change due tomorrow). It is a 90 litre tank which originally had 2 Filter Chambers each containing Ceramic Noodles, Black Filter Sponge & Carbon Cartridge and with a Jebo 2010 200W Aqua Heater. I replaced this with an Eheim 2010 Internal Filter (Pump output 220-500L), Undergravel Filter with 2 Uplift Tubes, AAUV9W Internal UV Steriliser & an Elite 100W Aquarium Heater (am keeping he temp at around 26 and with the original 200W I couldn't get the temp below 27.5). I know it is highly stocked but it has good aeration and everyone has been geting along fine .... until now .... ... last few days Siamese Fighter has been losing fins, they've gone straggly and looks like fin nip, also thought I saw a bit of white fluff, couldn't be sure, but dosed tank with Wunder Tonic and have placed Fighter in floting isolation tank. Now also one of the Mollys has a boated tummy and geting a lot of attention from the other Molly .. maybe it is pregnant (how can I tell? certainly the fin structure indicates I have a male & female) if she is pregnant what should I do? isolate her also? appreciate any feedback ..... thanks Up to now everyone has appeared to get on fine
  21. have had manufacturing experience where same product is packed under different brands ..... i.e. supposedly high quality well respected brands and exactly same product packaged as 'house' brands (PAMS, etc) and I bet a lot more of it goes on than we realise!!!
  22. and it is really friendly .... if you put your finger in the tank it will come up and wrap itself around you. Only issue is that now I have lost one of my Keyhole Ciclids the Fighter has taken to occaisonally chasing the other one.
  23. I have an AR-620 tank (90 litre) and couldn't get rid of the algae (incl. trying Flourish excel & lots of water changes) ...... took out fish, stripped tank down, got rid of stones and live plants, scrubbed tank, replaced standard Aqua filter with an internal Eheim filter, put in a small UV steriliser, put in an undergravel filter, put in new stones and new plastic plants .. also lowered temp from 27 to 25 ........ now have crystal clear tank & happy fish (have had for 2-3 months now, whereas algae used to come back after 1-2 weeks) Good luck with yours.
  24. Hi and Welcome fyi - Animates have some gd pricing on tanks this weekend regards dcase
  25. in joining a club. Can anyone give me some points of differentiation between the Canterbury Aquarium & Pond Society and Totally Tanked so I can determine whether to join one or both. As far as I can see from the Forum members of Totally Tanked seem to be more 'active' - by this I mean in voicing opinions and offering help. regards
