What sort of setup do you want? An African lake cichlid tank? Planted? Shell dwellers? Brackish? For lighting the easiest and most cost effective way for a tank your size is to put a couple of 150watt Metal Halides on it. Fittings are cheap, and can be bought off Trademe or other various online sights. If you are wanting to get serious with plants and maybe want to grow a glosso carpet or something like that, or lots of red plants, then you can use a brighter light, like 250watt or 300watt. And when you need to replace bulbs, you'll only have two to replace, whereas if you wanted a large amount of light but used flourescent tubes then there would be a lot of tubes that would need replacing! Ahh right thanks for that I'll take that into account for next time. And I'll try and get them to spwan in a terracotta pot or something so it is easier to monitor them.

Yes definately do a dwarf setup :happy1: I have been reading a book about dwarf cichlids that I'm borrowing off of Caryl, and it says that if you are planning to set up a commuity dwarf cichlid tank to use a rule of 1 pair per square foot unless the tank is heavily planted (and then you could stock it with a bit more dwarfs). A 5x2x2ft tank = 10 square feet, so approx. 12 pairs if you plan on going heavily planted. Here's what I'd do 1 pair of Apistogramma agassizii 1 harem of Apistogramma cacatuoides 2 harems of Apistogramma macmasteri 2 pairs of Laetacara curviveps 3 pairs of Microgeophagus ramirezi 2 pairs of Pelvicachromis taeniatus And then add a whole heap of Cardinal Tetras, Kitty Tetras and Emperor Tetras. And for plants, just anything random that you can get your hands on

Yeah the eggs were all fertile, no white ones. Doesn't matter anyway though, they're all gone I'll go and get some of that stainless steel mesh for next time

I've got nowhere to remove the fish to I have already lost half the eggs I need to get some some stainless steel mesh to create a partition in the tank so I can move the fish into that area so they can spawn and then I'll remove them. Or something like that anyway
