  1. Hello, I have two icecream containers filled with porridge, yeast and microworms. I have a few questions: - How long does this mixture last before it is supposed to be changed? So far it's lasted me a week. - I store it in a cupboard. Should I use the fridge? - I've heard of people using vinegar in their cultures. What is the benefit in this and is it worthwhile? - The mixture I use is two cups of porridge mix, and I make that into porridge with boiling water, let it cool, and divide it between the two boxes. Then I sprinkle yeast over the porridge. Are there any better feeding mixtures that people have had a lot of success with? Thanks, Joe
  2. Fill it with huge tanks and mass breed Cardinal Tetras and Apistos :happy1:

  4. Sorry it's been a while since I've updated this thread, but I've been busy with college lately and haven't had the time to take pics. My male currently looks like this: Except he doesn't have as much red on his body, but his colour is still developing. He's still only a little 3-4cm fish, so still has a lot of growing to do. He should look like this when he is older:

    New tank

Wow that is so cool !drool: The Cardinals look excellent! They really suit the scape, and look nice together with the Black Phantoms. I see you still have a couple of Sundadanio axelrodi and the Emerald-eye Rasboras in there. Awesome
  6. The ones with the bluey bit under their eyes I think are Head-and-Tail-Light Tetras, Hemigrammus ocellifer, and the ones with the red tails are Red-tailed Phantom Tetras, Hyphessobrycon roseus.
  7. Well I just won't give them milk again Which doesn't matter anyway, because I already have lots of nice green water for them

    Progress

Yeah I definately agree with Mikey. Once I took 35 pics of my Apistogramma macmasteri male and only one was good, and it is one of my best pics too

  11. Yesterday I hadn't checked on the bug tank before I posted on this thread. When I inspected the tank after I had been on the computer I noticed that there had been a massive die-off with the daphnia. I honestly don't know why, but it is so infuriating I sighted only about two or three daphnia, and the rest were all dead on the bottom of the tank. I did an approx. 30% water change. Today I have seen quite a lot more and there are quite a few little wee ones, but not as much as before. So I'll have to wait for ages before the numbers build up again and then I can hopefully start feeding them to my fish.
  12. Right you are Mine haven't even showed any signs of spawning yet
  13. Yeah but none of your spawns have been successful yet I fed them microworms yesterday  You're all probably thinking I'm pretty stupid since they are fry food and are absoloutely tiny, but they did nibble at them, and my Emperor Tetras really liked them :happy2:
  14. Emperor Tetras, Nematobrycon palmeri :happy1:
  15. Yay it is so awesome :happy1:
  16. No don't apologise. It would be quite boring if everyone only said 'Oh wow cool' and that was it. I love hearing other stuff that people have to say. It makes threads interesting If I get Apisto fry... The water is too hard in my tank - the pH test kit displays it as green or slightly blue. I don't think I'm going to have much luck unless I have water with no hardness. Then I can soak peat in it and make it really soft I REALLY need some sort of rainwater collecting system BTW I think I lost a female Apisto - when I stripped the tank to catch some fish the other day I could only find the male and two of the females. So that's $45 worth of fish lost  But at least I still have the male and two healthy females
  17. Well... I put some lettuce in the tank yesterday after I took the photos, so I can produce some green water for the daphnia to feed on, and I also added a bit of milk too. When I came home from college today I was delighted to see that they had bred. There are tonnes of little daphnia at the surface all scooting about! It is so cool! :happy1:
